Business Phone/Broadband help required.

Options
Hi.
I'm helping a friend of mine with her business broadband and phone.
Currentlly they have 2 phone numbers, 1 for the ADSL and 1 multiline which has 2 phones on the same number (I think)
They are with BT through BT Business.  They have a BTSmartHub 3 which is flakier than a serious bout of excma.
They only really use the phones for incoming calls (they're a takeaway) and the internet for Just Eat.

On the face of it, the BT deal being offered seems good.  However, going to VOIP means they will be screwed if the internet goes down.  Yes, BTare offering 4GAssure - but due to the height of the buildings, and their construction, this won't be of any use as the mobile signal in the shop is appaling.

I've hopefully attached the offer, redacting any sensitive information - now how do I go about finding an alternative supplier?  Only need a basic internet connection - not full fibre - and the phones.

BT intends to switch off its analogue voice services by 2020, so between now and then you can expect to see services being withdrawn. So I wouldn't be so adverse to a cloud hosted service, VOIP is inevitable so if they don't move now they will have to at some in the next few years. BT routers are normally pretty good, is it definitely a router problem?
  • Almost everyone will be going to VoIP within the next 5 years as BT phase out the copper.
Ditch the Hub 3 and get a 5 or 6 for a tenner from Ebay (they're not worth £100!, and they'd have to upgrade the router anyway as the Hub 3 doesn't support fibre)
Not sure what the rental is for Cloud Voice per month but with someone like Sipgate there is no monthly fee.
The cordless handsets offer is only of use if you want cordless handsets, I guess in a takeaway they will get pretty bashed and a router with ATA (analogue terminal adapter) sockets for conventional telephones might be better. ATA are about £20-50.
I assume the card machine is internet.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Slightly O/T (sorry) :/        but, slightly differing opinions here - does anyone have a definitive answer?
We have a copper only voice line to our house. We have a WISP service for internet as the copper line won't support a desent service and Fibre isn't available.
What do you think they will do with us?

  • Ok, well this year is 2020!
    What about other providers?

As for is it a hub problem?
    I'd like to say yes.
We've already tell replaced the hub once, I've turned off the cloud WiFi and changed the standard channel to the least congested, but it keeps dropping out.  Resetting the router brings it back

You only need  low bandwidths for voice, so what may not be suitable for general internet usage can be entirely adequate for a single voice channel.
