Can you defer a flight from this 23rd of month till mid September and how much would it cost to defer a flight for this length of time

Obvious really.

I am mystified why someone would sign up to MSE and create an account then post something like this rather than not just contact the people that would know and can action the change (if indeed possible).

Yes you can. As long as the flights for September are released:
See below from the link you provided. I changed my flight last year - only by a few days though. 
May be cheaper to buy new flights, depends on the cost of the original flights!

Can I change the date on my booking?

Even though bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable, we do assist our customers by facilitating date changes. For date changes made through our Call Centre, we will charge the administration fee plus the difference (if any) in price between your original fare and today’s fare price (including any increase to taxes, fees, or other charges). If the overall fare has decreased since making you made the original booking, no refund will be paid.
