Mobile phones - insurance or repairs?

icon5.gifMobile phones - insurance or repairs?
I have a mobile phone on a contract from t-mobile. It is about 13/14 months old (contract lasts for 18 months).
I used to have insurance but at £7.99 a month it got a bit expensive. (I am a student)

My phone has recently stopped working properly  and i am wondering the best way to go about getting it fixed.

My first idea - to go to a mobile phone shope to get it fixed.
2nd Idea - see if its coverered under my dad's home insurace, and claim that way?
3rd Idea - to get insurance for it, then claim

Can anyone advise me? I am going to need my phone during the Christmas hols as it is also my internet connection when i am at home.

Thanks

    The Phone; Nokia 6233.

The Fault: erm...phone won't accept calls whilst I am in my flat, also i cannot always make calls from my flat, also sending texts is a problem. This fault has only occured over the last 2 weeks, and I have full reception in my room.

    I don't currently have insurance.

It sounds like a software fault. Nokia phones have a 2 year warranty, so if you take it to any T-Mobile shop they will send it away (free) to be repaired for you, as long as the contract is under your name.

You can do this even if you bought it somewhere else (I guess you got it from Phones4u as you were paying £7.99 for insurance as Tmboile's is only £6.99).

You would only need to claim on insurance if the phone had been dropped or got water in it and that's why it's stopped working.

Oh, i didn't know bout that. Thanks - It isn't the first software fault i had with the phone - and they asked me if I had insurance last time.

But I will take it into T-Mobile shop and see what they say.

PS I did get it from T-mob, but it was oct 2006 (so maybe price changed since  )

    Thanks
  • If you can go to settings and turn networks onto Gsm only.

I recently had a problem making/receiving calls and accessing web when 3g was active. Turned out to be a problem on locally cell site.

I knew it wasn't the phone as I own a phone shop and tried quite a few different phones and had same problem.

They will ask you to note 5 different times dates number called etc and call them and they will pass it to technical.

It took 2 weeks to resolve in my instance.
