Virgin Notice Period

I've just been told by a Virgin Media typist that as my contract ends on 27th March, that that is the first day I can give notice to cancel.

I rebutted that I can surely give notice 30 days prior to this date, approx 28th February, to leave penalty free.

I assumed I was right and that the advisor had his wires crossed, but they responded that if i give notice 30 days before the last day of my contract, I'll be subject to an early termination fee.

That's rubbish right??

  • Found this little tidbit in the T&Cs

"If you choose to end your agreement you can do so on 30 days’ notice but if this is during your minimum period then you may need to pay an early disconnection fee, please see above."

This can't be legal can it? It effectively extends the clearly defined minimum term by 30 days!
  • With Virgin Media, you pay bill 1 month in advance.

So in February - when your final bill is generated (not debited from your bank account) - that is the earliest when you can give notice, and your last date of giving notice will be 26th February....
