Thank you nofoollikeold We have seen the EPC though it is based on there being double glazing and one of the units has blown, and we are waiting for our back door to be fixed. I have managed to get some freebie room thermometers from my local carers group and the temperature appears to show between 15 and 18 degrees. We were left a leaflet about the boiler though it doesn't seem to have any controls to adjust the temperature of the water or radiators. We live in a terraced house and I have found some insulation to put in the loft.

Sadly not renegadefm as it's a rented house.

Thank you knightstyle I haven't managed to find many draughts and the curtains are just above the radiators so the heat doesn't whoosh straight out of the windows.

Thank you markin the temperature in the living room is apparently between 15 and 18 degrees though where I used to live 19 degrees was quite adequate. It's a Victorian house so I would think solid walls. As it's a rented house I would guess that there is the minimum loft insulation and I'm going to get some more this afternoon! The radiators get warm but not scorching hot and I cannot find controls on the boiler to change the water temperature.

Thank you Slinky we have gas central heating and there is an electric fire in the living room. I have bought an oil-filled radiator for the bedroom. The heating is on for five hours in the evening and variable amounts of time in the mornings.

Thank you comeandgo I usually wear several layers, woolly socks, slippers etc. I now have an electric blanket! I have circulation problems so I'm used to feeling cold in my hands and feet and have all the cold weather gear: hats, mittens etc.

Do the radiators have control knobs on them? The boiler probably has a flap you pull down, but the control's on it may not be much use, What model brand is it? You need to find the room thermostat.

I'm sorry it's taken me ages to post this picture. These appear to be the controls on the boiler! There are no thermostatic valves on the radiators, which never get very warm anyway. There is no room thermostat that measures temperature, only a timer but it's just on or off up to three times a day and you can programme different timings in for each day of the week for the, erm, "warming" as opposed to heating to come on.

That picture is no good at all. It even looks to me as though the knob or dial is missing !!
Try a different picture.
Also do as the other poster asked post the make & model number so we can find you an online instruction book.
