  • What’s the best travel insurance for Europe which would cover possible cancellation due to coronovirus or provide cover if all travel is prevented by the Government?

Unlikely insurers will cover travel to countries deemed inadvisable by the FCO, read the T+Cs and clarify witht he insurers before buying.

There is no best 'insurance' there is only what's best for you and your circumstances, remember you get what you pay for

I have bought the travel insurance saver insurance i mentioned in op . Worldwide including usa as we have relatives there so no accomodation needed which keeps our cost down . Also booked for dubai .
£1250 cover for cancellation for each person although excess is £150. You can keep paying extra for this or that but where do you stop. For £24 you can get rid of the excess completely .
Reviews all say the same thing - easy to buy , no  problems with anything but have not claimed which the why the proof is in the pudding .
I have done a few searches and this looks like good value .
Company is established in other finance area's but are just entering travel insurance . Rothwell and Towler.

Umm maybe not so good as they are associated with TIF Group who appear to manage their medical emergency claims.  Have a look at first page of the policy docs.

EDIT:  Anyone else find the new forum a pain to use on an iPad 🤬

All of them (more or less) would cover cancellation if Foreign Office advice changes after you've booked the trip. Probably not so much if you book it against existing FCO advice.

I agree, sorry I should have clarified, if you book a trip knowing there is advise not to travel it may be an issue

Husband is 73 and has oesophageal cancer with metastisis to his liver and lymph nodes. He finished his 8 rounds of chemo and immunotherapy and tumour is now negligible, with lymph nodes all but normal and liver lesions shrunk by over 25%. Now just  on immunotherapy. Spoke to consultant and he says he is fit to travel. Trouble is we want to visit relatives in America.. Have tried a few 'specialist' companies who supposedly cover  preexisting conditions and over 70 but have had one quote for a 3 week stay of over £12000.00, another for a 2 week stay of £5000.00 most wont cover at all. Any ideas please.

Avoid Puffin Insurance. Sadly they do not cover cancellation if the FCO advise against travel to that area

Another reason to avoid Puffin / TIF Group,  our trip to the states a week ago was naturally cancelled and we had insurance for that holiday only so we contacted Puffin to cancel and they only return 50% of the costs, maybe they were cheaper than most other companies but to claim 50% of the money for a policy that could never be used is unfair.

You had cover for cancellation,  e.g. you were  unable to  travel due to an accident or illness,  from the date you took the insurance out  so you need to pay for that.
You may not claim on your car insurance or house insurance but you do not get a refund at the end of the year  because you didn't claim.
