O/S Daily Wednesday 5 February 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

JackieO - boiler's always seem to go wrong once the weather goes cold - it may be worth speaking to your local council to see if there's any grants available to help with the cost- bearing in mind everything is geared at the moment to eco friendly etc - possibly speak to your supplier to as they may be doing some sort of scheme, also age uk.

Dark and cold start to the day here.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, new potatoes, LO roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, peas, broc, yorkshires and gravy - all LO's now used up - sounds liks a lot of food but there was a little portion of several things! Tonight we'll be having egg, bacon, sausage, saute new potatoes (some left from last night) mushrooms and beans. The eggs have been bought from a farm where they keep loads of chickens so all free range and gorgeous - we went and collected them at the weekend.

Yesterday work wasn't too bad although we had technology problems again, hoping today is going to be better. First thing had problem customer come in and I was actually doing a different job but could hear things escalating so went out and spoke to him and then spoke to our Manager - I had the ok to deal with the situation and when that escalated escorted the customer to the exit door. I'm completely expecting that customer to re-appear today. Difficult when we can do no more to help. My last working day this week, I'm then off until Monday - the weeks seem to be flying by at the moment! I have the normal "to do" list.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Hope today is less stressful for you.

DP1 it never rains but it pours does it. I hope your DD is now on the mend. I remember having tonsillitis when my kids were small and I couldn't believe just how ill it made me feel. GERS I hope you enjoyed your evening last night. JACKIE ouch! Nothing seems to be made to last these days does it.

Not a lot planned for today other than jobs. The two youngest DGDs will be here to sleep after their dance classes. Just a bit of supper will be needed as DD will have given them their tea before dancing. Will consult my up to date inventory before I christen my meals for the day. Despite eating from the freezers for a month they still look as full as ever.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx

  • Good morning, and thanks NMLC. You do seem to get some awkward customers at work, enjoy your days off away from them all.

Yesterday was busy as I knew it would be, however it passed over quickly. We went to a well known DIY place so DH could get some things he needed for replacing some bathroom waste pipes now the old shed is out of the way, and Dgs enjoyed sitting in the trolley and looking around.
I went to the Residents' meeting and there weren't many attending, which is unusual, but it was a cold night, and some of the members are elderly, maybe they didn't want to come out in the cold,

I'm visiting a friend this morning who has been poorly, then I'll be glad to get home and do a few jobs here.

RR, hope you haven't had any more trouble with DD's ex.

    Have a good Wednesday everyone
    take care folks

    Morning folks

My evening out was just lovely. :j I was collected, give a rather tasty G&T, had some supper with plenty of wine, lots and lots of great chat and then taxi home at nearly midnight. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Today I have my sports massage, really, and not a day too soon. My shoulders are really sore.

Well, the box file cupboard is now officially empty. :T Those files which remain (probably only six) are in another cupboard. I'll do some more 'relocating' of stuff today so that I'm not having to move everything at the last minute.

Now I wish everyone a happy Wednesday.

    Morning all

Brrr cold and frosty here poor OH is out there scraping his car off.

All quiet on the ex front atm but he is out on bail and has been warned again not to contact her, we are all waiting for something to happen though as we know this wont be the end, we are off to get front and rear dash cams fitted to her car this morning, we also have a camera in the kitchen window facing down the drive which catches any movement.

I have had some bad news myself which I am still processing, I have had some breast changes so went to the GP who referred me to the breast clinic - long story short they took two biopsy's from left breast on the day which they said they were almost sure were cancer.
I had to go back for another stereo biopsy on right breast where they biopsy while under mammogram they took 52 biopsy's which although didn't hurt (they had numbed the area) it was extraordinarily uncomfortable and I kind of felt violated it was a horrible sensation laying on the bed with boob squashed while they took sample after sample knowing that there was absolutely nothing you could do at all and just had to go with it.

Went back last Friday for results and I have a cancerous growth in left breast and DCIS and LCIS in left. Both of these can lead to cancer, so I have to go in for a MRI scan on the 17th Feb and then after that they will send me a date to go in for a lumpectomy on each boob and removal of lymph node in left armpit to see if it has spread. Afterwards I will have to have three weeks of radiotherapy in a hospital a far way away no will need to arrange lifts etc.

My work have been fab and have signed me off with full pay for two months which they might extend once we know the timelines etc.

I just thought I would keep you up to date, I have a long journey ahead I think, I know Jackie O has been through similar so may be able to offer some advise.

    Have good days all xx

Oh RR, such frightening news for you. I can't imagine how you are feeling right now. At least the problem has been found and is being dealt with so the outlook should be good. Treatments have moved on so much in recent years. I'm sending you huge hugs.

RR so sorry to hear your news. Just take it a day at a time and if that is too much a minute or hour i found that helped me xxx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

redruby, I was so sorry to hear your news, I don't really know what to say. I know there is a very active thread on Mumsnet in the General Health category if you fancy some support from the lovely ladies who are going through the same thing. I am just sending you a massive but very gentle cwtch and I hope and pray you will get through this xxx

Today my friend is coming to see me so I need to have a quick tidy up. She doesn't care what state the place is in but it makes me feel better. I also have my doppler scan today hopefully as long as there is enough nurses to go around.

Short and sweet from me today as I am desperate for a cup of tea and some breakfast. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Good morning everyone, have just caught up with things from the past couple of days.

Redruby, I'm sorry to see your scary news. I've been through the process but to a much lower extent for me it was a scan, fine wire biopsy, thick wire biopsy and finally a guided wire under GA but I was fortunate, it was not malignant. My friend had a double mastectomy plus lymph gland removal and needed support through that. It was not fun at the time but she's in good health now so I hope you will be.

dp1 hope your daughter is feeling much better.

Bella I was sorry to read about your dog, they leave such a big gap.

After a bit of a gap in work coming in, I've had a very busy few days and more work coming in, good for the bank account and keeps me busy and interested but quite tiring for the ancient brain.

JackieO what a nuisance, let alone the expense but you need to be warm and comfortable.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Just popped back to give REDRUBY a huge but gentle hug. I can only echo GERS' words and add we are all here to listen and support you through this horrible disease. So many of us on here have lived with or lived with someone with cancer and know just how devastating this news is. Not just for you but your family as well. Much love to you all xx
