Don't quite understand what this new thing is that BB companies in particular say "prices may change during the contract".
What's the point in having a contract if the company can willy nilly change the terms to whatever and you're stuck with it?
Is it so hard to fix a price for a set length of time and stick to it?

This has been in Sky TV's terms for years, its not a new thing.
Your contract is to agree to stay with Dalek Fibre for 12/18/24 months normally at a discounted rate. If you sod off early then you pay exit fees. Simple as.
The main get out clause is a change in the value of VAT which is something they have no control over. These uncontrollable values are often why things "may" change.0 -

Your contract can say £x for a months then £y for b months. It can say that there'll be a rise based on official inflation rates. But the broadband provider can't just increase the price as they please and still lock you in! That would be unconscionable. If the provider does a random mid-contract price hike, you have the right to end the contract without penalty.0 -
if the T&C's state they can raise it inline with RPI then they can.
It's probably less than 2%, so usually talking pence0
