Hi there folks,
Having just got Fttp to home, I am using a 3m yellow Ethernet lead to connect from the ONT box to my router seems to work ok but don't know if using the Ethernet cable slows down the speed?
I didn't have another cable available and engineer seems to think this one is ok.
Thanks for any advice.

I cant see what other option you can use other than the ethernet cable.0 -
At worst the Ethernet cable will support 100 Mbps speed transfer (assuming it is CAT5; if it's CAT5e or better then the speed is comfortable to achieve, especially over 3m - in fact 1 Gbps is likely). What FTTP speed have you been promised?0

I've got FTTP and I just use a CAT 5e cable. According to FAST.com I get 1.1gbps download and 900mbps upload so you should be fine.0

^^^^^^^ Nice
How much is that if you don't mind me asking ?

You often don't have many options. What other cables could you have used? SFP? SFP+? Does the ONT box even have SFP ports to connect clients to?0

SFP? Do you mean STP?
SFP = Small Form-factor Plugable, and relates to modules you plug into switches and routers (e.g. from Cisco) to enable different port types (Ethernet, fibre SC, LC, FC etc.)0 -
The only connection from my ONT box is ethernet.0

Hi AndyPix,
It is £25.70 a month (fixed for two years). It is a really great service - uploading to things like OneDrive is so so quick. I've had it for 4 months and it's fab.
that's a good price, who's supplying?. City Fibre are going live with ours on 1st March.
Current pricing via Vodafone £38 - 500Mbps (Average) £48 - 900Mbps (Average).
They are doing a 100Mbps for £28 for those who want less.Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

It's supplied by TalkTalk through CityFibre.

Vodafone seem to be a lot more expensive. With the 500mbps and 900mbps what is the upload speed? With TalkTalk it is symmetrical with 900mbps both up and down.0
