Morning
Has anyone heard of, or better still, bought through this website?
https://www.onbuy.com/gb/
A friend in Sweden is considering buying a new iPhone 7 (at an excellent price) but they don't ship to Sweden so it would be delivered to me.
No qualms at all at about receiving phone on behalf of friend, but as I've never heard of the website, I'm wary on his behalf.

Trawling through onbuys company info was a trail of who owns what.. 150,000,000 shares value £150. Optimism
Apple product not from a mainstream source, you should have been running for the hills faster than you could blink.
I know its an online marketplace - just like Amazon Marketplace & eBay are online marketplaces.
I'm not asking for advice whether my friend should buy an Apple product from a non mainstream source - that is ultimately his decision.
What I am asking is whether anyone here has used this website, which I had never heard of.
FYI several years ago I did buy an unlocked Apple iPhone 4s though eBay. I had no issues with either the transaction or the phone. But that is beside the point;)
They had a Paypal offer recently to sign up and get a free years shop subscription type thingy.
There are companies I recognise selling on there and the company appear to making a reasonable effort to be a worthy marketplace in the future.
If your friend pays with Paypal they'll be covered under the usual INR and SNAD and section 9 covers what Onbuy have to say about returns:

but I can't see any mention of any kind of resolution arbitration like Amazon's A-Z or eBay's Money Back Guarantee.
Thanks
Good to hear you've heard of some of the sellers. I'll pass info on to my friend, then its up to him.
This gave me some assurance that the website at least is genuine.

Just because some legit companies use the site doesnt mean every seller will be legit. So the question of who is the seller still stands.
It has a better feel to it than many of the 'eBay lites' that we see and actually has a fee structure that makes sense. It isn't cheap, but the guarantee that you won't be charged a shop fee for any month where you haven't sold £500 in the previous month is an interesting concept. It's also worth noting that they appear to only want business sellers as well and control what gets listed and what is denied.
I don't like the fact that everything I've looked at has stock photos though. It feels more like they are trying to take a bit of the Amazon market rather than eBay, and that in itself is interesting. It is a good tidy site but I've never heard of it before until I read this thread.

Puzzled why they allocated 150 million shares with a grand total value of £150.
Thanks soolin
Not off topic at all, and as one of the well respected posters on this board, I value your opinion.
You've echoed my thoughts on the site. I usually hang out on the Essential Money boards and like to think I have well tuned 'scam' antenna.
Anyway, friend has ordered said iPhone so I'll report back.
I do take forgotmyname's point about the sellers though
I take the point about the strange financial details- and there are certainly other things I am not sure about , but I will watch the site with interest. The fact that paypal seems integral is a good thing, although I am not sure what they mean by saying that seller gets the paypal money as soon as item is marked as dispatched - that is not the case for payments directly taken and I hope it doesn't mean that the site acts as a third party which would nullify any buyer protection.
Anyone on here that knows my posts will know I can be overly cautious, so at the moment I probably wouldn't buy anything high end, but with paypal it should actually be fine if , as discussed above, the payment is made direct to the seller.

Meeting friend later this month. Will update re any issues with phone.
