Hi Doom_and_Gloom - who do you get your box from?
San
They are a really good local business. I love how they check that you are still happy with the box you are getting nearlly every week. Not only can you get the box you want but you can add extras such as apples, pears, lemons, mix sprouts, garlic etc. They also do eggs as an extra but as I'm vegan I don't get them :rotfl: . It is really well priced for the amount you get. I have seen very few so well priced.
If this one does not deliever to your area you can try searching for one by using http://www.vegboxschemes.co.uk/ and hopefully you should find one that suits you and doesn't cost a stupid amount.
Hope that helps.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Egon, life will be much simpler when you can make your own bread, save some of those trips to the shop 'just for a loaf' which often result in spending an extra £10!!
I dont always stick to my meal plan though, just that I like to ensure I have the makings of enough meals to cover the month, iyswimI know its much more difficult with a family, especially where different meals are necessary for one reason or another. my hat's off to you people who cope with complicated situations daily :T
... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Evening everyone, just checking in, part of me having a using up month (and spending less) means I haven't had an excuse to post as I haven't spent anything, so just thought I would pop in and say hello, let you all know I am thinking of you all still. I hope everyone is doing well with their budget in what is a tempting and extremely stressful time of year.
I've been working on using up what we have in, my spend so far includes the milk for a month (money put to one side) but I can see me dropping the order a bit after Xmas, ok I like to support local business but the last lot worked out at 57p a pint so it's gradually increasing and was high anyway. We get 10 a week, use it plus most months an extra 4 litres I get from the shop, so that's £5.70 just on the delivered milk. It does save me money as it stops those impulse buys when I have to 'pop to the shop for milk' and come out -£10 but it's just so high compared to shop prices where I can buy local milk.
I will need to go shopping for dog food next week, I also need to go to Costco but think I will just take cash and leave cards at home, save me going OTT in thereWe're half way through the month and I haven't even spent a third of my budget but I still have the farm shop meat order to collect on Xmas Eve, Christmas shop etc to do yet. Left over money this month is going towards some Mermaid pans, so extra incentive to spur me on!
One day I might be more organised...........

Thanks so much for that link Doom_and_Gloom. I'm not in the Maidstone and Medway area but will check for one closer to my end of the country.
Seems like a great idea to increase veg and fruit intake without the temptation of heading to the supermarket.

Not always though.... just sometimes:D
To update my totals
I went to the wine making shop the other day.. which I shoulnt have done... not because of the money I spent... only £7.80... but because I drove there:o And my hand was hurting when I got home. So have been a good girl since then and not driven.
The same day, I went to Lidl....to top up on bread:rolleyes: and spent £19.32.
So that brings my total to £127.42.
I have to get eggs... but I get them from the farm, and there is nothing else to buy there. Will get them tomorrow.
I am going to finish my christmas shopping today... but that is a different budget.0 -
Ah Belfast girl to my rescue again.Got go advance. .
Now I can post with you all.
The value meal I did last night was ok. We did add a couple of diced peppers to the sauce(also value ones), but the rice was not brilliant. it was very sticky!! But the chicken breasts were good and meaty. Would definitely stick with them in future.
Wonder if one of the vegbox people would accept the vouchers the girls get from Healthy start? Have to investigate that one. Like the idea of a veg box being delivered.
Still dont have the car back, so therefore I am not spending much. Only milk from the local shop. £1.48 for that.
:T
One thing about being bankrupt, no credit cards to get happy with. If I have anymoney its in my mums bank account. Mr T dont accept electron cards for some reason, well they do in store, but not on the internet delivery so My Co-op account isnt a lot of good. But its a step in the right direction. It is in my name. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi everyone! Well, further to my last post, I have planned the meals for the rest of the month, and shopped accordingly this weekend. Spent £27.38, therefore total is now £96.69 giving me £23.31 left. I *think* I should just be able to do it, fingers crossed! xMFW

So much for my monthly planning! Last Thursday I found that my car needs a new clutch 'sooner rather than later' and so I have it booked in for next Tuesday - estimate is £430 !Ouch! However, I need it for work so it has to be done, and the little garage I use in the village is very straight - I don't think they would rip me off - but even so, just what you don't want to hear just before Christmas!
Then I had a tearful phone call from DD2- she's cold and lonely in her student digs and can she come home earlier than she said - i.e. today? I couldn't say no could I? So off I trotted to the local Budgen - the nearest store open on a Sunday and bought extra fruit and milk and salad - came to £15+ - then she phoned to say she had changed her mind and would come home tomorrow afternoon instead!
Then DD1 phoned in tears because she was poorly - so we had to drive over and take her to the emergency dr. It's probably a virus but you never know! So popped into Tesco to get her some food and paracetamol and spent another £10. Kids!
Still, I still think I will come in on budget- I better had given the unexpected car repair!
Never mind - we'll get there in the end. Good luck everyone. Off to cheer myself up wrapping some Christmas presents!0 -
So far this week (which runs up until Wednesday) my total spend is £94.61. This takes my month's spending upto £267.61!! This weeks's spending did include lots of christmas treats (chocs, biscuits, xmas pud, mince pies etc etc) so I don't think I've done too badly!!!
Have £132.39 left for the remainder of the challenge...still have some extras to get for christmas and need nappies, but I may just do it this month (the only one this year:rotfl: )...what a way to finish the year!!:T20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100
