December 2007 Grocery Challenge

Second box of this month arrived Thursday and £15 later I had:
Potatoes (k) - 14
Onions - 4
Bunch carrots (k) - 14
Swede (k) - 1 large
Cauliflower (k) -1
Ruby chard (k) - 1 bunch
Courgettes - 4
January king cabbage (k) - 1
Garlic - 2
Red pepper - 1
Cucumber - 1
Jonagold apples (k) - 4 large
Clementines - 9
Bananas - 8
Kiwi fruit - 6
All of it weighed over 10kg. The delieveries are so heavy I have trouble getting them up the stairs to the kitchen alot of the time lol not suprising as they mostly range from high 9kg to low 10kg!!
Also bought a loaf of organic bread for 17p as well as some organic rice cakes that cost me 29p  . Had to buy organic oats aswell for my mice as ran out and that cost me £1.03 so not all that bad (they last for about 2-3 months on that with the fruit and veg cutting I give them from my meals and snacks).
I baked an apple pie as well as a mince pie on Wednesday which I found very relaxing. I had the pastry mix and mince mix already and used apples from a previous delievery that I had not used up and would have most likely gone to waste otherwise so very MSE I think. In theory I got two lovely tasting pies for free :rotfl: . The pies have helped me lately as I haven't really been eating all that much as I'm ill (blood tests show that I have an abnormaly high white blood count and will need another blood test around the 4th of January, I hate blood tests as I'm REALLY afraid of needles) and I'm still in pain from the injury I got fired from work for even though it was work machinery that caused it  . Oh well the pies are good and keep my energy up at least, hehe.
Spent of budget = £31.49
Left of budget = £18.51I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
... I have decided, that from the new year, I will try and do a monthly meal plan. it will hopefully work out to one big Mr T shop monthly and the rest from Lidl and local shops.
...
Egon
I find the once-a-month mr t delivery works fine for me (may try asda in the new year for a change) and then I just top up with fruit, veg and milk; my order is usually around £70 and since I've been doing it that way, I've come under budget each month. I meal plan for a month too, though I dont stick to it rigidly, Mind you, I only have myself to cater for so its quite straightforward.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Very well done TDD.My university days are long and I doubt that I would pass the 11 plus now:D
Went to town today to get carrots, parsnip, tin of cherries and one of apples (DW is going to make some pies). Came to £4.19 in Tesco Metro.

Maybe you should try to get a no win no fee :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Apparently my solicitor's barrister's accountant has been chatting to his DW, and she says I should sod off and get a life. Well there's female logic for you. :eek:0 -
Hi all, thanks for those that have given me the advice. I shall be keeping the december receipts and a waste diary from today. See how we go. Not having had all of the girls home and now the babies too, until now last months spends are not a good indication of whats to occur really. The least the better I say, as long as its healthy as possible, but the bonus is the girls both get vouchers to spend on milk and Vegetables so that should be £5.60 a week each until their babies are a year old. God are they going to be living in my little 2 bedroomed flat with us for that long!! Can I cope I ask. I already feel like a caged animal. Eating sleeping and networking in the same room!! Agh. Only bonus is I have two beautiful grandchildren, a reason to get up in the mornings, and a challenge to raise to.(On top of my Grocery Challenge), my waste diary, and learning to live on a 3rd of my original income!!When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0

I seem to have ended up in a spending frenzy this last few days. First of all the breadmaker offer that I couldn't resist on Amazon. Then went to M&S last night and ended up spending £14 (partly cos M&S had a BOGOHP offer on garlic bread and a 3 for £3 offer on crisps). Also went to Sainsburys to stock up n mozzarella, so another £14. Needed petrol so £25 gone. And another £7.98 at the chinese supermarket although that included enough white vinegar and bicarb to do six months. To top it all off I just spent £80 on wine from M&S as well although in my defence they have a 20% off offer and I got a code for another £10 off and free delivery (this is a different budget tho).
Someone should take my cards away from me soon. This bargain hunting is costing me a fortune!!
Oh and Mooloo I take my hat off to you
And TheDoolallyDilly congrats well done :T:T:T0 -
While my car has been off of the road, I have saved a fortune!! Cant go anywhere, cant spend much. Just mr T deliveries.!! Which is just as well with the sudden drop in income.
Thanks Belfast girl. I see it more of not really having much choice. But then ask me again in a month or two!!!
Cant seem to find the funny faces etc everyone else seems to have. Swore they were on my first couple of posts??
Think I will be lazy today and go and have a bath. Doing a tesco value line challenge tonight.
Value sweet and sour sauce, value chicken breast and ah value rice!! Could be interesting. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Hi all
Due to a Mr T delivery, this weeks total has now shot up, ouch!:o
Did manage to use some voucher codes and BOGOFs but looking through the list I still seem to have plenty left to get for Christmas.
Oh well, will try to make a detailed list of everything else needed for that and do a bit of a storecupboard challenge for a few days to balance it out.0 -
mooloo for the funny faces you click on the 'go advanced' button below and it brings them up ...0

First a big thank you to everyone on this thread. :T
You are all so nice and always have a great way to cheer everyone up! :j :T
Rosieben - A monthly meal plan will be a challenge. I have to think up meal for 4 people. DS2 is only 51/2 month old, and he needs a slight different meal plan to the rest of us. But, I refuse to cook seperately for the rest of us. If they don't like it..... tough! But hey, life would be boring without all those challenges.
I can see myself doing hundreds of lists each month... one for Mr T, and one for each week to get veg, milk, fruit etc.
Spend another £2.35 on bread. We have this nice french bakers in town.... The bread is delicious!:A
Can't wait for the sales, so I can buy my own bread maker.
EgonI wish Germany had a website like moneysavingexpert!0
