Existing broadband connection after home move

Dear All,
I would like advice on what to do regarding my broadband.
I put in a homemove form for BT for the 4th February as this is the earliest they could do. I actually moved house on the 31st of January. I got a text saying that the existing line is being cancelled on the 21st February. I hadn't realised but BT had actually cancelled my home move and also not bothtered to cease my line at my previous property, they didnt bother to tell me this. I have now been advised to put a house move form in to start on the 21st of February after the existing line is finished.
Is there anything I can do here? It seems ridiculous I am using the previous owners broadband and BT say they can't do anything to get me my own broadband before then?
Regards,
Spencer

...given the notice you gave them...?amiallowedcats wrote: »I put in a homemove form for BT for the 4th February as this is the earliest they could do.
Perhaps the new occupant cancelled the move...?I actually moved house on the 31st of January. I got a text saying that the existing line is being cancelled on the 21st February. I hadn't realised but BT had actually cancelled my home move0 -
Well actually, the previous owner was just lazy (he also left £500 gas debt, didn't clean the house etc. but thats another matter) and I believe he waited to the very last second to put in the cease order and he put in a date in february for some weird reason. I think when he put the cease order later than my move date, my move date then couldn't be completed. Its a shame BT didn't inform me of this and even when I rang they were confused themselves, but I don't seem to have many options.0

Is there anything you can do? Yes, plan better & more thoroughly in future. Remind yourself of that every year from now on.
Yes, of course, I get things mucked up like this. Hurts eh?0 -
I don't know what you mean by planning better. I don't think I could have done much different. The only thing I could have done is ask for a fresh install of a new line instead of a takeover of existing line. However BT advised me not to do a fresh install as there was an existing line they could use.0

This shouldn't be your problem. Give the gas company the meter readings and the date you moved in and let them chase their former customer for the debt.amiallowedcats wrote: »he also left £500 gas debt0 -

This comment seems to come from someone who does not understand
The relationship between BT Broadband and BT Openreach
That BT are at fault here for cancelling and not passing this on which is not the OPS fault0
