The sort of people that do this are demonstrating that they are prepared to spend time, hopefully enjoyable time making the best of their money. I would not be surprised to find that their cars are clean and serviced, they do not waste and they are solvent with no payday loans for example.

Others who would never bother with this and often deride those that do are more likely to take the easy/costly options and will get rid of their unserviced cars on webuyanycar.com, waste takeaway food, have a history of payday loans and worst of all look to the above people for financial support.
    Modern life innit.

You forgot the vast majority of silent people in another group that sits between the two above...those of us, like the OP and myself, that do some of both above groups practices, without taking either view to the extreme.

So what part of the second section do you think is excusable/acceptable.......
    1) Deriding those who look after their money and enjoy it
    2) selling inadequately serviced and poorly cared for cars on webuyanycar.com
    3) wasting expensive takeaway food
    4) History of payday loans
    5) Look to those with good financial acumen for financial support

I truly hope the answer is currently no to all 5 but perhaps my idea of reasonable, decent and responsible behaviour is different to the silent majority as you put it.?

Not going to start a tit for tat off topic discussion but, fwiw and my opinion, number 2 isn't a huge sin as buyer beware applies to WBAC and anyone buying a used car, and providing you've paid for number three, the expensive takeaway in the first place it's up to you to decide whether to eat it, give it away, or junk it.

The rest of your 5, no of course not.

Some parts of your post I agree with, but what does a clean car have to do with anything? My car is well maintained (by myself), but it's 20 years old and looking a bit grubby, It gets cleaned now and then, but giving it a scrub every weekend only serves to highlight the few "age related marks" it has acquired thanks to careless supermarket shoppers and the like. I'd still trust it over most new cars nowadays, regardless of its cleanliness. On the other hand, I know people who, as well as washing their car every few days, go out and dry it off after it's been raining (yet, beyond paying a dealer for a stamp in the service book, they have no interest in the mechanics of the car, but that's another story). However, their finances are a bit of a mess from what I understand.

I also enjoy the occasional takeaway and some of it does get thrown out. Not everyone who takes a keen interest in looking after their finances is a joyless old bore, just as not everyone who doesn't take much interest in their finances beyond making sure their bills are paid, is constantly in debt to QuickQuid and the likes.

I don't wash my 10 year old car much either, i do most of my own maintenance, i'm saving money as it cost's £7 for a car wash and i'm on a water meter, that's why i only shower once a month whether i need one or not.

Any chance of combining the two chores? :rotfl:
  • I don't open numerous high interest current accounts any more or juggle lots of regular savers as we have moved to a more streamlined finance system. Marcus savers and Santander 123 lite and a few bank switches every now and again. We don't waste money but similarly we do not chase better returns unless we feel it is substantially worth it. I understand people saying the small returns all add up but I don't move savings around constantly any more and 75% of our liquid assets are invested anyway. We budget though and look for good deals and discounts wherever possible. It is not a hobby though and just takes a few minutes extra to find out if there is any cashback on offer on a particular deal. Just being as savvy as possible without it being an obsession.
