A Fed official has indicated rate cuts are likely to be coming in December. This follows yesterday's news that the gulfies are having a big punt on Citibank. That's very positive news as there is a massive amount of spare money sloshing around in the Mideast at the mo, due to the high oil price.
Now if some of that could be diverted to plugging up some of those black holes in the banks, could make quite a difference quite quickly

I think 2008 will be a bad year, I see the FTSE falling to 5000-5550 this time next year as the US economy goes into a recession.
P.S also believe the house prices here will crash next year. Sorry for being so negative, just my personal opinion

Fed cuts and the dollar sinks even further, prompting even more inflation. Look at treasuries; people are still buying into them even though the yield (return) on them is very low - clearly such people are getting out of equities. All the economic news today was negative (drastically). This has got to be a suckers' rally; and if people are Long indefinitely (as opposed to just day-trading) on the Dow, i feel they are going to be punished quite severely. Just my
