In a weeks time I plan to lodge a complaint to Utility Point, flavour of it is they supposed to refund credit automatically within 10 working days,  as opposed to having to complain after what will be 10 weeks after final Bill was issued,  my stated complaint resolution will be refund of credit plus £30 compensation plus £30 compensation plus exit fee refunded.  :p

The real issue came when I was changed to a new supplier via Look After My Bills.
You need to dump Look After My Bills.  They do what's best for them, not what's best for you.
Just search every few months starting with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?', remembering to get quotations based on annual consumption in kWh from actual meter readings.  Also check whether separate fuels are cheaper than dual fuel.
  • I was happy with them till I decided to switch away. My account was showing a debit but I assumed that, as I had always paid by DD they would just take the money as and when. However, I then heard my switch was being blocked because of it. I immediately paid in full by bank transfer. Over a week later and the sum has not been credited to me account. I double and treble checked all the bank details and my reference number. All correct. My bank also told me that the transfer was successful as far as they could see.
I can only conclude this is indeed a scam tactic to avoid people switching and then I guess be put on a higher tariff when my current contract runs out.

I am coming to the end of a fixed deal with British Gas so looking for a new deal.  The Cheap Energy Club has Utility Point as their top deal for a 12 month fix.  Pure Planet are £159 a year more expensive.  I am very suspicious when there is such a big difference.

It took me four months, nearly five, to get my overpaid £118  DD off Utility Point. I would heartily recommend avoiding them

  • Five months , several e mails , many phone calls later I have finally received a refund from utility point I finally gave them 5 working days before I reported it to the ombudsman and on the 5th day it dropped into my bank 👍🏻👍🏻

How much compensation did you get £0, £30 or £60 ?
  • So glad I came across this as now I am going to avoid Utility Point.  It does seem they are in serious problems.  I switched to them on 31 December 2020 and nothing happened and two switches were cancelled.  Endless waiting on the phone.  The staff I spoke to were pleasant enough but somehow they seem to be hiding something.  One promised to ring me back and never did.  The deal I got on 31 December was a really good deal and I think they basically dont want to offer it - they even started to blame So Energy but So Energy have provided documentary evidence that they are not at fault.  They have taken two direct debit payments (not covered by the direct debit guarantee as it does not cover where there is a schedule of payments).  I have now cancelled the direct debit.  They are obviously gathering people's money supplying nothing and taking as long as possible t pay it back.    Any advice anyone has would be greatly welcomed.  I really do feel for these people who are awaiting large repayments.

I'm now in my 2nd year with them and apart from a minor issue over a refund in year one I have no complaints. Their rate for me is very competitive at 2.41p per kw. I am now fixed until March 2022 and there is no penalty fee for leaving early.
  • Well I have done further research and it would appear that a lot of people are owed money by Utility Point and a lot more than me.
