I bought Yarmaster Metal Shed from Argos in July, paying over £450.Initially I had so much difficulty in assembling it as the instructions were so bad and I ended up paying £100 to be asembled by professional.I sent repeated emails but the reponse from Argos and the retailer itself was dissapointing.
Now,the worse has happened...last week the roof of shed collapsed as the middle beam broke down.Because of which all the stuff which I had kept in it got damaged because of the rain.I bought this shed as our house was undergoing renovation and I had kept my dining table, sofa, bed and 2 wardrobes in the shed but because of this collapsing of roof all my goods have been badly damaged and can't be used.I have got no place to move my stuff as my house is still not complete.
I am so dissapointed with the quality of shed, that I want to take some serious action against this.I am not aware what Argos policy is regarding such incidents but I would like them to provide me with maximum compenstaion for all my loss...
I dont know where I stand. Can anyone suggest me that what should I be doing?how should I tackle this pb?
Any replies would be highly appreciated

I know this isn't much help to you, but I had problems with mine, they are not strong enough. Mine buckled from the wind and anyone could of broken into it. About this time last year when we had strong winds it ended up in my next door neighbours front garden:eek:0

Can you not claim on your house insurance if Argos don't help?

Its less than 12 months old and should be still under manufacturers warranty - also quote 'of merchantable quality' at them if you have any problems.Mags - who loves shopping0

Big company, wont care..
House insurance wont touch it i think, prob best of trying to make good yourself, and live with it.
if they were to replace it, they would tell you to take it apart, and await collection, where it would be replaced. Then you would have to make it up again..0 -
I think last post sucks - do you know what site you are on? Try and find out if argos can compensate, then contact your insurance broker, then let us know and peeps can advise , that is if you remember.0

Ring argos C/S and explain the fault and damaged caused, a metal shed should last a lot longer than 4 months so its definately not 'of merchantable quality'. As for the damage they should send you a claims form for the damage caused...however...you say that you paid someone else to construct the shed, so you can you prove that the shed itself was faulty or was it an error buy the person who put it together?
i only ask as it might be better to just say you put it together yourself;) 0 -
But if she says she did it herself they could say the same thing. Surely saying it was constructed by a professional is better?

i think you should contact argos with basic details (i would write and send it recorded) i.e. i bought a shed in July and now it's collapsed due to a fault/poor quality. no need to mention who put it together, just that it is only 4 months old and given the price paid you would expect it to last a lot longer than that. tell them what you expect - a replacement (or more likely a full refund i expect) and advise them about the damage to your other items. whilst they may not be liable for them they may offer a goodwill gesture. state in the letter that you wish for a speedy response and give them a time limit of 7/10/14 days to respond - whatever you feel is appropriate. close your letter by telling them that if you do not receive a response within that time then you will have no option but to take it up with your local trading standards office. alternatively you could actually contact your local trading standards office first, through your local council, and advise argos that you have already done this and that Trading Standards are taking an interest in the case and the response. hth.credit card debt at LBM Nov 2006 £11,300:eek:

Make sure you write and send it Recorded Delivery. They will probably deny any responsibilty. But, they are responsible unless they can show they are not. They will know doubt wage the normal big company war of attritution but do not be deterred by that. You may well reach the stage where you will need to threaten and then even take out a caliom through the Small claims Court. Do not be scared of that it's simple, painless and pretty much risk free except for your fee that you'd not get back if you lost, but that's not very likely.
Remember, all big companies have CS departments whose sole aim is to keep the company liability to the minimum. They will try and use every execuse not to pay. That does not mean they are in the right. In fact most of the CA personnel have got no idea how to spell the words consumer and law, let alone what they mean and what their employer's responsibilities are.
Good luck.0
