Curry's extended guarantee

My Sister purchased a Samsung washing machine and fridge freezer from Curry's in September. At the time she was harrased as she was having new kitchen installed plus central heating installed. She would not normally buy extended insurance but she had a lot of pressure from the salesman. She has paid £70 for washer and £50 for fridge. The washing machine has a fault in that the door was letting little white flecks in the transparent ring around the door..Engineer has been out and says there is a crack in this area. Says this is a problem he has dealt with.
I was looking at Samsung Warranty and there is a free extended guarantee of 5 years. This is for certain appliances and from certain retailers. Both her appliances are on this lift.
The engineer told her to go and ask for a refund. She has had flu and is housebound at the moment.
She spoke to Samsung and she should have registered the guarantee within 90 days. Initially they said no but the person spoke to someone who said that they would honour the 5 year guarantee
I am angry as I know from experience Curry's do our a lot of pressure on people. She is elderly and flustered so agreed against her better judgement. Advice would be appreciated
Sue

There's no harm in asking for a refund citing the 5 year guarantee but I doubt you'll get anywhere unfortunately. They will probably argue that their extended 'guarantee' offers extra protection that the manufacturers does not.

They're always a complete waste of money unfortunately. And it's why salesmen push them so hard. Very poor value product = high profit margin = high commission = high pressure to sell them.

Curry's were not promoting this offer which was from August and expires on end March I think.
Last week in RIP OFF BRITAIN.ran an update on an article they ran some time ago They sent in secret shoppers and each person was offered the extended warranty and incorrect information was given about the cover. When challenged they said they would do staff retraining and also display notices in stores
Another organisation can't remember it's name but was about unfair competition and again Curry's were criticised and again they promised more training. RIP OFF say they will continue to keep an eye on this
I don't think Samsung were happy that they were not using this promotion to sell their product.
She is having a replacement door delivered on Friday. The engineer was not impressed and told her to ask for a refund. As you say it is commission based for the sales person
    Thanks for your advice

Not much help in this case, but if she is prone to fold under salesman pressure, maybe offer to tag along her next time she is making a big ticket purchase and help her resist.

Or buy online, no salesman pressure.
