To put my penny in , I think you either move back home but then I'm not sure it would be fair for your Mum to foot the extra bills or you take a cold , hard look at how you budget your finances.
Being consistently late is no way to operate, it is after all the roof over your head and rent comes first before anything else
I feel for your LL having to budget his finances because you can't do yours . You don't go to Sainsburys , get to the checkout and tell the cashier "I haven't any money so will come back later " then carry on out of the store still with a trolley full of shopping
Whatever happens within the family is of no concern to the LL , he/she has aa family too .
Yes the law does allow you time to stay and put things right , but my fear would be that you will constantly make rent not the priority it should be considering your past history
Time to get your head out of the sand and do a proper SOA and see what exactly is going on and make the cutbacks necessary and put some away as a buffer so this doesn't happen anymore
I think you have been given enough safety nets and time to operate on your own financial feet and keep to it0 -
*UPDATE*
We are NOT getting evicted.
I called into the letting agents just this morning as I wanted to try and get as much advice as I could before going in there saying wrong things and making things worse, and turns out it was crossover as the guy that owns the letting agents hadn't seen the money go in by the time he went to the bank(remember me saying he is a bit of a b*gger and intimidating?) so he must have got flustered as per usual and fired off a letter before bothering to check anything again...
I promised them there will be no more late payments - to which they replied with acknowledgment and thanked me for catching up what was due and getting myself to a nil balance. I asked them to apologise to my landlord for all of this mess and that I am now working 100% to rectify it and turn things around ie. no more late payments etc.
I have also reiterated my promise of a payment on 8th Feb in time for when my rent is due on the 11th(which I will have the money for by then to pay it) and further rent payments will be paid in full without fail by the end of each month ready for when the rent is due on the 11th of each month.
As for the replies saying I should do an SOA/sort out my finances/cut back etc - we are already at a bare minimum for everything and we go without luxuries(we don't buy ourselves - we only have if gifted to us). If I could tell you the true extent of how we live right now we'd be here the rest of the day...0 -
I'm glad you've got things sorted.gemmajenkins0208 wrote: »

This is exactly what the Debt Free board here is for! Put as much detail as you like about your life and finances and people there will help you. They are amazing at finding ways you wouldn't have thought of, and most of them have been there themselves so if nothing else you will find people who recognise your situation, whatever it is, so you will have people to talk to. Best of luck.0 -
Try the competitions board too if you have spare time. Only enter for what you would want or could sell. Be VERY careful not to enter for things that might cost you money (such as a trip away but no flights or travel costs). It takes a LOT of effort, and it's hard to win these days, but even getting a free lipstick or packet of popcorn can put a smile on your face!
This is the list in end-date order:

If you don't already do them, OP, online surveys might be an idea. Whole lot of waiting around/wasted attempts but you actually get pennies (occasionally £s) for your time and effort. It seems a better time/reward ratio than competitions to me. All respect to hazyjo, though. She knows whereof she speaks.0 -
You could set up a standing order so that the money is transferred in time each month. Payments would then be on time and not dependent on you remembering (which doesn't seem to be your strong point!).0

I don't think you've really understood what your late payments actually meant to someone else. Has it occurred to you that maybe they struggled to pay their mortgage because your rent was late? Not every landlord is a big moneybags rich person and the banks still expect to be paid on time. I have personally seen people who could not afford their groceries because they'd been laid off and then the tenant didn't pay, they definitely weren't well off, and here's you moaning that the agent is being unfair to you for finally losing patience with your broken promises. I know that people don't have a lot of sympathy for landlords, but it's not like they can just sell the property instantly if the rent doesn't turn up. In the meantime they can be stuck without any money to feed their own families.
In that case the landlord should get of the business as they should have something backed up in case of voids, not rely on the rent payment month to month to survive, what would happen if the boiler breaks down? As you say stuck without money for food! Not saying paying rent late is ok either.0 -

you forget, some are 'accidental' Landlords, to be fair the LL should have given a section 21 much earlier"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Perhaps the landlord had already used up the buffer due to the persistent late payments? Perhaps they did have a buffer but have had to use it due to them needing it? You don’t know. OP, if I were your landlord I would be making sure everything was in order and be waiting for the next late payment. TBH, I would have kicked you out long ago.0 -

There will always be someone more frugal than you.0
