  • Belated happy birthday and what a lovely gesture from your Dad, class that as the 3rd big thing to affect your finances this month - no harm in focusing on a positive change instead of anticipating a 3rd negative one 😉 x
Yes that's very true. But there are still a few days left in the month yet.... ha!

  • I would agree on takeaways being more common and I agree with your assessment that it’s the ease of ordering! We don’t actually get takeaways very often, but I was surprised when chatting to a friend who told me she gets regular coffees, snacks and food Deliveroo’d to her house when WFH or will get a bottle of wine sent over etc of an evening. Surely getting a coffee & bacon roll delivered is a very expensive way of getting a treat but what do I know 😅 And I definitely think if it wasn’t so easy to order/pay she wouldn’t do it. I’m 34 too.

I refuse to have a coffee delivered but do admit to going to drive thru when I'm going into office or out on a visit. This is something that I need to reign in as its definitely increased since January. I've got my coffee machine back out as decided that it's same price to buy a pack of pods which does 16 as a coffee from cost@. I've started having the fake away ready meals instead as less calories and costs less. Some of them are alright. I also try and keep a pizza in freezer for days I don't want to cook as well. But Asd@ dont always have my preferred one in stock so I grabbed a couple this weekend when i saw they did. I do find meal planning helps me to stay on track with cooking as well. Its when I don't know what to cook that I end up ordering takeaway.

I think keeping “easy” options in (like pizza) is key to avoiding takeaways. I don’t mind a takeaway if I’ve planned one as a treat and it’s something delicious. But I hate just getting one through being disorganised and having nothing easy to cook.

Luckily I don’t drink coffee so I’m safe from the temptations of drive through coffee or picking up a cup to go when out 😆

Yes I don't mind planned ones though I'd much rather go out or order a restaurant in rather than a more traditional takeaway. Omg it still surprises me every time I hear someone say they don't drink coffee! What about hot chocolate or coolers in the summer?

I don't drink coffee either (or any hot drinks in fact).

    Lovely gift from your Dad.

It’s not through frugal virtue I just really really hate the taste of coffee 😂

Hmm, no, it wouldn’t cross my mind to get something to go from a coffee shop 😜 I do buy hot chocolates if I’m actually sat in a cafe with people (rare) but wouldn’t buy one to carry about. If too hot in the summer and water isn’t cutting it I tend to just pick up a nice cold fizzy can at a corner shop, haven’t tried coolers.

I do drink (unsweetened and no milk) tea but only average about one cup of tea every two months, usually if someone is offering me one (which doesn’t happen much as my friends know I usually say no).

You’ll be unsurprised to learn that due to low exposure I’m really sensitive to caffeine (need to be careful with soft drinks in the evening) so that puts me off getting more into tea as it affects my sleep 😂

(I hasten to add, I do spend on both alcohol and soft drinks at the pub and alcohol for at home - in case I was sounding too frugal 😜)
