    Happy birthday weekend!

Sorry about the tyre and the tooth, at least you had the funds.

  • Another busy week for me. I was very lucky this week to receive some money from my dad. He decided to gift £1k to me and my brothers to help us out with the rising costs of everything. Put it straight into my sinking fund but then had to move £250 around as I had tried to pay the tyre costs from my spends not realising I had another week before payday. Had to top up with petrol as done some long journeys for work but will be able to claim mileage back next month. Then put £100 into my bills account to sit there as don't like it to be empty in case something comes out I'm not expecting. Still got money left in my spends account will need to get a few bits of groceries but will make a list to stick too.

It's nice to see a dad who understands the need for trickle down now and again.  I respect my kids independence but I am only too aware that its tough out there at the moment so I know they need a bit now and again (without having to ask for it, although that also happens !!) Just for treats or making up EFs when depleted

  • Not sure if this is a UK wide saying but in NI we say "when it rains it pours". Glad you got sorted and that was a nice wee boost from your dad!

We've also been struggling with the takeaways, my friend and I were actually discussing this recently and we reckon not many in our generation have the time/desire to cook anymore and we're all eat wayyy more takeaways than we let on! From your posts I think we're probably around a similar age!

I hate having to ask for money and if do would usually do so as a loan. I did offer to take the amount off what I already owe him but he said no. So I'm very grateful and I do a lot for him so he sees it as repayment for that as well.

Yeah I know the phrase and it certainly felt that way for sure. Had to buy some new trainers today as I had worn through the bottom of them. Just another expense. Roll on payday.

I think because its more common nowadays for both people in a household to be working full time. Growing up my mum worked part time to allow her more time to spend with us and manage household better. I also think takeaways are easier to get now, there's no having to get cash out and go pick it up as well. Its only a few clicks away nowadays. I just turned 34 :)

Absolutely and it really takes 2 wages coming in for most people so the fact you're managing alone is amazing! Yes we are around the same age, I'm 30 😊

Thank you it's only because I got an inheritance when my mum passed which was a big chunk of my deposit. Otherwise I probably would still be saving up a deposit. Ahhh ok so yes similar age.

  • Belated happy birthday and what a lovely gesture from your Dad, class that as the 3rd big thing to affect your finances this month - no harm in focusing on a positive change instead of anticipating a 3rd negative one 😉 x
