Yes with the current circumstances one starts to realises what we actually need. I personally had 135 T-shirts at one point and only 2 pairs of jeans, I still only have 2 pairs of jeans but a lot less t shirts now but that’s just how I roll with my wardrobe.

i hope you have considered some vegetable/fruit plants maybe as a small project?

Ah yes the kettle and toaster miss match can happen due to failure, I would suggest a put the kettle on emergency fund of 50p a week into a small pot would solve the potential loss of a caffeine fix.  I am sure you will get a set with a toast tho.

lastly yes I am well and its my night off so letting loose to a degree.
My problem is that in the 2 years since my mum died I have gained quite a bit of weight and been buying myself clothes for work as spend 5 days a week in them but not so much for rest of time. Now I'm not at work beginning to realise that having no choice in tops can be a pain. But I'm happy with what I got and now I have some more and the new leggings ate super comfy so even better.

I'm over it now tbh it's more that I want a 4 toaster rather then 2 but again it's not a need it's a want so it can wait.

I did think about some fruit or vegetable plants and I'm going to look into it. I'm not a massive gardener so want something simple to maintain and that can have in my raised flower boxes that the cat isn't likely to destroy.

    Take care and keep safe.

  • Hi Sarah, thought I'd pop over and say hello!
Sorry to hear about your mum, that must have been a massive shock. Looks like you're doing well on the debt front!
I'm also in need of some new clothes, I've started a little fund with what I don't use out of my fuel allowance while in lockdown!

I'm sure, you must have been really close! Yeah, I've found food more expensive than normal at the moment and obviously trying to limit shops so ending up paying more for certain things! Do you still have your friend living with you?

We lived together and had just brought a joint house together in the Feb and she died in the April. We were in the new house for a week before she was hospitalised. Was a mad few months leading up to it and after. Totally unexpected as well, all stemmed from her getting a UTI and falling out bed, she caught pneumonia and went into hospital. Came home as seemed to be OK, was just tired and bit weak, but seemed it triggered heart failure. She was only 60, scary really.

Yes my friend is still living with me, its been difficult over last week or so as my patience is running out a little. So been spending some time apart where possible in the flat. Luckily we have a garden and our own rooms and she goes for a run and I go for a walk seperately. Household chores seem to be the issue, I'm working from home and admittedly my job isn't difficult and I'm probably only doing 70% capacity but it's still work and she isn't. Yet all the chores seem to fall to me to do. She did do some washing up today but then only did some of it so I ended up doing the rest.
At least once this is over she will go spend some time at her boyfriends so hopefully get some space but that in itself may cause issues when he starts staying here and i have to give them the living room. I don't mind doing it as long as it doesn't end up being every Saturday night again.

  • Omg Sarah, I'm so sorry to hear that. That is absolutely crazy! Lol can definitely sympathise with the chores, I'm in a similar situation with DH. Personally I wouldn't be giving up my living room for anyone, if you had a partner would she be happy to be confined to her room? Do you need her there financially or is it just helping the cash flow at the min?

Thanks it was crazy times and very hard on my mental health but feel like I've come through it now.

I think if I asked then yes and I don't mind some of the time but I don't want it to be every Saturday which is what it was like end of last year when they were together. They recently took a break before getting back together. Have to wait and see what happens but I am going to deffo stand up for myself more once this is all over. At the moment we are stuck in together so don't want to rock the boat too much as could make it difficult to live together.
I can manage without her here but the extra money does make it easier for paying things off and building up emergency fund etc quicker. I put £250 a month into saver and then £100 goes to repaying my dad's loan but that's only because the SO is set up from the account rent goes into. I have don't a budget and I can manage without just wouldn't be able to save as much so quickly or pay off so much in the cards so debt would be got longer. Trying to make most of it by not spending it on extra and either saving it or using it to pay off debts and absorbing the extra bill costs. It is nice having someone here most of time but I think be better when we can spend some time apart again. Being together 24/7 is a bit much when your friends.

    Hi Sarah,
I have read over your diary after you posted on mine - you have achieved so much in a tough few years so should be really proud.  Everything is a bit up in the air for everyone isn't it but at at least you had out yourself in an OK place financially to get through this tough time.

I hope things ease up with your housemate.  Good you are thinking about the boyfriend issue now too so that you can deal with it before it becomes an issue.

    Take care

Thank you I'm lucky that I am able to work from home and not much has changed for me financially. Let's hope there will be an end in sight soon for us all.

Hello! How are we all doing? Hopefully there are still some of you out there. I'm beginning to become really fed up with lockdown and struggling with WFH. It's really not doing my back any good at all.

Financially I am doing OK, just need to reign in my spending on amazon. Its all been stuff that's useful for me doing stuff in my garden but wouldn't call it essential. Haven't had to top my car up yet still have half a tank left and only use it to go shopping or to chemist. My emergency fund is up to £1k so going to leave it at that. Looks like football won't be happening with crowds until start of next year so have delayed my goal on YNAB so more can go towards the credit card payments from next month. This month (April) the extra has all gone into the emergency fund.

Next month is another month without service charge to pay. Its very handy. Feb and March is no CT and Apr and May are SC free. Been great timing for me really with everything going on.
My housemate is still out of work and it's starting to hit her this month financially so she's trying to be frugal as possible. So that will mean no more takeaways for us until she's back to work. As long as she keeps paying me rent that's what matters really for me. It really doesn't feel like an end is in sight for us, I think it could be another few weeks of lockdown before we start to see restrictions lifted. But I did notice more cars on the road over the weekend which is worrying.
