Free recall to dealer works out expensive

Wife's car (Honda) was recalled (for the second time) for an air bag recall.
At this free recall she was offered a FREE safety check.
They found a split wiper blade - £36
Cracked tyre valves - 2 @£10 each
She got the valves fixed but even she realised that was a bit stiff for a wiper blade. We have both looked at the blade and are unable to find a split.
Am I right to be suspicious? What would you do?

How does it work out expensive? All you have to say is "Thanks for letting me know ....bye".
Alternatively if your my MIL you say thanks can you just fix them for me. No hassle for her and she is happy.0 -
thank god the recall was not for tyre valves , they may have found a faulty air bag!0

What would I do?
Absolutely nothing.0 -
When did wiper blades get so pricey?
I remember not long ago they were £2.99 or so, even from places reputed to be more expensive.0 -
two Bosch front ones bought recently for my CRV were around £16 in total.
Fitting simple for most people to do.
Cracked valves, that sounds odd. Valve caps maybe at £1 for two max, but valves?0 -
Reminds me of a old chevvy I had that had a brake recall. Had a phone call advising disks, pads & struts needed changing.....
Simply said OK. Leave it with me. Don't do the work.
Strange, but it passed 2 MOT's after with no mention of them....
Cracked valves or tyres... Do you use a car wash that uses creosote to do tyre shine?Life in the slow lane0 -

Recovering their costs
The cost of the recall is paid for by the manufacturers to the main dealers. So it doesn't cost the dealer anything. The 'safety check' is just a way that the main dealer will fleece you on unnecessary items.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
That's wrong.

My 03 CRV was recalled for the passenger air bag issue.
It was MOT'd a couple of weeks previosly and I told them that I did not wish any inspection/work beyond the recall item.
Despite that, they told me they had a "duty of care" to check over the vehicle.
When I returned they said they had given it a "visual once over" and all was fine.
Recalls are an opportunity for MDs to take the pi55; all you need to do to avoid this is to be assertive. The alternative is to pay £36 for a wiper blade.0
