Silent bathroom pull cord switch?
Comments

dezz99, I used cotton wool and its worked fine for years. But if your unsure about fire safety, try an alternative to something that is flammable. Sounds silly but you could use plasticine or even bluetac as it spongy enough to apply and non flammable.0

Thanks. Is it possible to get a wifi bulb and some type of wireless switch that i can put outside the bathroom?
My parents won't be able to use a smart phone every time they go to the bathroom...
Well yes you can easily get gu10 wifi bulbs (and set them up as a group to switch as one as aI assume more than one). Although some may be too large tfor bathroom inset waterproof thingys!
As for a switch. Yes it is possible. No, I do not know of any off the shelf solution, at least with the cheap ones which tend to use an android app (or the fruit). May be easier with the expensive ones needing a hub, but they are expensive and need a hub so I have not gone there! A cheap amazon tablet can be left around with the app on though (though you may have to rip it off an android phone to put it there!).0 -
You can get E27 Radar leds for 6min just need to swap the fixture.
This PIR is 16min but it needs a neutral running to it.

Contactum is about the quietest of the regular switches.

the old one would wake me the other side of the house. I cant hear the tiny click from this one.
I did mount it on some rubber too - but its so much quieter that was unnecessary overkill.0 -
I used to pee in the dark at night to avoid waking hubby, but we were in an urban area and it was never really dark0

There is a way to replace the pull cord with a wireless switch. Not the cheapest at about £50, but sorts the problem. You'll need to remove the old switch and fit a receiver in the ceiling space with a blanking plate over it . The switch needs no wiring as it works from the kinetic energy from pressing it! Head over to TLC Direct and look for quinetic.
As I'm having this problem with pull cord switches, I'm thinking it's the best way to go .0 -
Have a look at the Philip's Hue range, they're wirelessly controlled light bulbs but in addition to app controls using a hub, they also work with a wireless handheld controller or dimmer switch.
For example, smart bulb with a wall mountable wireless dimmer switch you could fix near the door

HELP.... ours sounds like a gunshot, 2 bangs switching ON, 2 more going off, at 2am having a Alamo re-enactment waking humans and 3 dogs up is getting tedious, my aims not so good so i need a light, the torch looks like we have burglars.
The "current" is is just a 2 way pull, ive bought a much quieter model (British General/Screwfix) BUT.......
Its 6amp whereas the one banging is 10amp and it runs a light and fan...
