Second hand car not happy

I traded in my car with an early settlement for for the finance on my old car. This left me with positive equity which I put against the other car. I've signed up to a new finance deal on the new car. This was only last Saturday. My wife is really struggling to move the automatic gearbox gearstick. Is there any way I can get my old car back given that the dealer has added a reversing camera and the adaptive cruise control?

Is it any different from when you did the test drive?

You're going to have to ask the dealer and it'll all come down to goodwill on their part. You may be able to withdraw from the new finance deal if you're still within 14 days, after that things get more difficult.

What car is it, how hard can it be to move the gear selector, are you sure she's using it properly?

Is there something wrong with it? There is a locking device that prevents it moving out of park unless you hold the brake, and another that stops you taking the ignition key out unless it is in park. Maybe one or both is faulty.

I doubt you will be able to unless the gear selector is faulty, if it is then the dealer should fix it so your Wife can operate it normally. What car is it, just in-case there is some witchcraft you have to do to move it.

The car is a Volvo XC60. My wife has lost a lot of strength in her arm, but didn't have any problems changing the auto gear selector in our VW Tiguan.

It's faulty, ask them to fix it. You could move the gear lever in my XC60 with your little finger.

Didn't your wife test-drive the Volvo before purchase?
  • Take your wife and the car back to the garage and get them to look at it.
