car rental damage

A continuation to a thread I posted earlier: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6090621/car-rental-damage-dispute

Basically the car rental company charged me for a damage that I wasn't responsible for but I don't have proof to show otherwise so will have to shut up and pay up.

They initially subtracted £800 from my excess for the damage. I have received an email today telling me that there was an additional cost of £100 for the repair.

My questions are:
Can they ask for additional cost for repair later?

The cost of the repair is going to be £900 in total. This is in relation to chipped windscreen and a cut front tyre. Are the repair cost reasonable? I do not have a car and only rent when I need one so I have no idea if the cost is extortionate or not.

I asked for a breakdown of the damage - and the car rental company said they could not provide me with a breakdown. Is this BS?

I have previously asked for photos of the damage and they have ignored my emails. Is it reasonable to ask for photos of the damage so I can get a independent mechanics to see if the cost they charge is reasonable?

Thanks a lot.

You will have signed authorisation when renting. Hire car T&Cs will enable them to bill you whatever they deem appropriate.

I think you are dependent on their good will.

In future, get yourself annual insurance to guard against this risk.

Don't forget that you are also - under the Ts & Cs of the contract you signed - responsible for the amount of time the car is unavailable for rental while the work is being done.

Ultimately, you signed to say the car wasn't damaged when you collected it, and it was when you returned it.
