Wedding supplier issue

We got married last year and booked a photo booth company who we paid for (deposit by PayPal) and the rest on visa (I know not ideal!). They didn't turn up to our wedding with no reason given initially and after we tried leaving reviews on Facebook they finally got in touch saying that they would refund our money but to be patient as they had lots of people to refund and business was quiet. Alarm bells were ringing but we thought we had no other option. That was November and we have received nothing back despite lots of emails.
We tried the claim mack scheme through my bank who said that there was no money in their bank account to claim back. As the deposit was over two years ago PayPal won't let us claim that back. So at a bit of a dead end. Any advice about what we could do next would be appreciated! I should also add that our wedding insurance is refusing to cover us as they don't class it as a service.

So you paid on a debit card the balance. When was this?
A card chargeback does not require any funds in their account. It comes from their merchant bank. Who will then chase the retailer.Life in the slow lane0 -
Yes debit card payment was last March. I think because we paid it into their business account they could only chase the funds from that account, and they said they couldn't reclaim anything as there was nothing to reclaim.0

Which bank is your debit card with. So you typed or gave the company your 16 digit card number? If that is correct, then what they said is rubbish, and I hope you raised a complaint with them over this at the time. Sounds to me like they are talking about a bill/faster payment where you use their sort/account to pay.
Or how would people get money back from the likes to Thomas Cook and other companies who go bust..Life in the slow lane0 -
Sorry I don't think I explained properly... I transferred the money using their bank details from my visa account.0
