Wrong parts but already installed

You should have checked. It’s on you now
Why is the OP obliged to check that someone has done their job properly?
I dont recall hearing that anyone was paying them to do so. Do you work for free?
The company would be all too quick to refuse the components back under DSR using the excuse that they had been installed
If one sends back a hard drive under warranty to Seagate or whatever they will often return one with a bigger capacity and it would not occur to me to do anything
If I buy something from Asda home delivery they will often make substitutions if they don't have stock
Leibher are doing exactly this with freezers at the moment as they are experiencing parts supply issues0 -

I would agree with you if the OP installed something he didnt know was a different spec, but he knew it was wrong before he installed it, so should have checked IMO0 -

Assuming you are a consumer building a personal computer I'd offer them half the difference, if they don't take it have the computer rebuilt by paying someone and counterclaim for the cost.
He fitted parts that he knew wasn't his to fit, assuming an upgrade is wishful thinking.
He is entitled to the cost of returning the parts, everything else is on him.0 -

If the substitution only cost slightly more than the ordered item then I can see your point but in this instance it's a difference of £350.
There aren't many companies would would send you something of this value because of a 5 day delay in getting the goods to you.0 -
Thanks for this discussion.
You can take the view that I should have been more diligent, that perhaps I was blinded by wishful thinking. This mistake of mine has created lots of additional costs. It's not the companies fault that I've made it hard for myself to return the parts. And I definitely shouldn't benefit from my own mistake!
The counter is, yes, I made a mistake. Yes, it was perhaps wishful thinking, but I'm human, and sadly we're all susceptible to such cognitive biases. However, it was the company that put me in a position where I could make a costly mistake. They can't wash their hands of my error; it would not have happened without their prior mistakes. They shipped late and shipped the wrong items. I've not mentioned this before, but they also forgot to include the original packaging which further obfuscated the value of what I received.0
