BA changed name on booking!

Reality check:
Girlfriend told son she'd doubt she'd be able to get time off
Son phones friend 'fancy a holiday to California mate'?
Friend jumps at the chance
Son contacts BA, changes name to friends and pays the fee
Girlfriend can now come
Son panics because he's already given her place away to his friend, blames it on BA to save himself from the wrath of both his girlfriend and his mum

Is that what we're all thinking?

Wouldnt this involve the OP's son pretending to be a woman on the phone?

We don't actually know who is the lead pax.
The OP does say:

That may mean she booked the trip as lead pax or it may mean she's paying for the trip but left the booking to her son who made himself lead pax.

Also the wording in the OP suggested the OP got the email back, so she is the one who booked it.

Well yes, thats what he may have told his mum. We have established no names can ever be changed by email, so must have been a phone call and he is being economical with the truth maybe?
