Sky Contracts

Hello

Back in August 2019 i decided to join Sky for my landline Phone, BB and Mobile from BT because of BT's high price at the time. I already had Sky TV legacy and was a VIP of possibly 15 years now via my Sky+ HD and was offered SkyQ and a SkyQ Mini box at no cost for installation along with a new TV package of Sky Entertainment, Sky Q Multiscreen, Sky HD, Sky Box Sets, Sky Sports - Complete Pack, Sky Cinema and Sky Sports HD, these services started on 10/08/2019.

Now the SkyQ box that was the reason i went for the discounted added TV services was only just installed on the 11/01/2020 which was 13 days ago as i type and due to finances i wanted to cancel SkyQ TV yesterday and just keep the landline Phone, BB and Mobile but was told the SkyQ service is only a way of watching Sky TV and so i was past my cooling off period for the TV services back in August 2019. I asked what he could do for me as a cheapest option and was told the landline phone BB and Mobile would be £40 but i've worked it out as £37 and i would have to keep the Sky Entertainment at £22 which he worked out at a total of £62. Looking now at the contract for Movies which he said comes with HD + the sports HD it would be £10 for the two which would bring the bill to £72 which i work out as £70. The upcoming price rise would not change the total.

Previously last year after one of the unsuccessful visits to install my SkyQ i rang Sky to ask about the contract cooling off period and about how long it was taking to install SkyQ and the guy said i was still within my rights of the cooling off period. I'm confused now, does anyone know if i'm within my rights to cancel my SkyQ TV package?

I think i've posted in the wrong thread, Mods please feel free to move my post please.

    You're in the right place.

I would put an email or postal complaint in and see if they'll agree to cancel the TV contract.

Thank you for your reply Colin, i rang yesterday the 23rd January which was within the cooling off period for the SkyQ box and the mini box which i thought could be used as a wifi hotspot, i don't have two TV's so i wanted to boost the signal for my laptop that i have in my bedroom but i don't think i can with the mini box. Sky can't argue with my intention to cancel but i would like to know if you or if anyone that has had a similar experience knows if the late installation on the11/01/2020 would include the SkyQ TV package that started last August?

The Q Mini box should act as a WiFi hotspot although I think it's an expensive solution if you don't use it for TV.

You should have been receiving the same channels last August as now, you've just changed the box only.

I've never heard of a 5(?) month delay on installing a Q system before I'm afraid.

Good point on the channels, i only added Sky sports, i had the rest previously apart from the Multiscreen which tbh was added i think because i mentioned about the free mini box while thinking of the wifi.

The delay for the installation was because i have a shared TV system between four dwellings and needed something installing so i could get SkyQ, the TV system box which is situated on my neighbours wall is maintained by a different company so they had to install a box or something so that the Sky engineers could install SkyQ, i got permission for Sky to go into the box early on but on the first visit the engineer said he wasn't qualified to do SkyQ on a shared box and each visit after that over months the Sky engineers which were different every time said i've tried to install SkyQ but there's something wrong or other excuses, the person that worked for the company who deals with the shared box said there's nothing wrong with the box and it was the Sky engineers that didn't know what they were doing.

Before the January visit the last time a Sky engineer visited was back in November, after that the earliest appointment time was January. The Sky engineer said Sky are really pushing to get people to install SkyQ so they can be seen as a multi service provider with TV, Phone, BB and Mobile and are not bothered in cases like mine where there was a problem during installation.

I don't understand why he said that as Sky were already Quad players.

I had a feeling it was going to be a shared dish, not unusual for them to cause issues I'm afraid.

Maybe the engineer meant Sky was pushing for the major multi service providor rather than a multi service providor.

I just thought i would give you an update Colin after you took the time out to help me.

Sky agreed pretty much straight away that i was still in the cooling off period for my SkyQ instaqllation after so many months so to cut a long story short, i leave Sky TV/Q at the end of Feb, i still have my phone, BB and mobile with them and i keep my VIP status which is 5 weeks short of the top tier of Diamond or 15 years which is nice i guess. The SkyQ Multiscreen option i had which i think i questioned in an earlier post was the actual SkyQ service, not multiscreen as a single option, it came together.

    Thank you Colin.

Out of interest, what does VIP Diamond actually give you?  A bigger discount?  And what will you now be paying for what services?  Many thanks
