Just wanted to say that all correspondence comes from his name (easy to add to VIP contacts in gmail so I don't miss anything!), and the company has been very good for my OH (and hopefully me!). He's had thousands back, and I still have one ongoing claim through them. Their fee has been very competitive and we've had no issues. The banks etc have been a bit more vague and quick to dismiss, but those that have admitted we had it (unexpectedly) have paid.
Felt it might be helpful and reassuring to let others claiming through them know they're legit.

Competitive? Doing it yourself is even more competitive and completely free.

Yup - I know, and advised everyone to do just that. Wasn't for us though. Most of the PPI that was discovered on my OH's was stuff he had no memory of having (forgotten credit cards, etc), and he had absolutely no details re accounts, etc. Mine was just a last minute thing after his cheques started rolling in... As with most, I didn't think I'd ever had it.

You need to realise that you could have easily done exactly what the Claim firm did and simply sent speculative letters to all the likely (banking) suspects asking them if you had PPI. This would have cost you precisely zero.

Basically, you paid exorbitantly for someone to put a stamp on the letter containing your complaint.

While PPI complaints were still allowed threads such as this one would be suspected Spam but,  as the Claim Firm stands to gain nothing now from your promotion of their "services", I guess it can remain as a lesson to others not to fall for advertising hyperbole.

Claim firms did absolutely nothing you could not have easily done yourself.

    You wuz robbed.

Thanks. I really do appreciate it. You are totally right, I said the same to everyone else (everyone who tried - my mum, sis, and a couple of friends all apparently had zilch). Not saying it was the better option for all, it just suited us to have someone do it on our behalf. Know lots won't (and shouldn't) agree and not trying to convince anyone, it was just more convenient.

Bit like someone paying for a wedding planner, or if we use our travel agent at work to book a flight instead of booking direct with the airline.

    Horses for courses.

Remember that a Wedding Planner or Travel Agent wouldn't charge around a third (plus tax)  of the cost of your wedding or holiday... ;)

Travel agent, not. Granted. But a wedding planner often charges 10-20% of the cost of the wedding. My OH has not had to pay tax on his PPI claim. I may if I get any - not sure.

But the Wedding Planner actually does something for the money, whereas a claim company just puts a stamp on the envelope containing the customer's complaint... :)

The tax I was referring to was the VAT which is payable by everyone when using a claim company.

Yes, but those people actually take away a bit of headache and organise stuff.
A CMC puts a letter in a in envelope saying, Hey you financial institution, did Hazy Jo have PPI and if she did, she wants to complain about it. Thanks'
That is the extent of what they do.

I’m shocked to hear he’s sunk so low. Used to be great on BBC R2.
Jimmy Savile refunds are far more reputable.
