The Best Washing Machine & Tumble Dryer?

I'm sitting here after a week abroad listening to our latest Hotpoint sound like it's going to explode. I was warned by the engineer about 2 years ago (when it was 3 years old) that the bearings were going and I would be better off replacing it when I couldn't bear the noise anymore, rather than call him. It now sounds like it's going to explode. Given that it's a Hotpoint, I probably shouldn't be running the risk. It isn't in the latest recall, but it certainly looks like one that should be. It's time to escape the grips of Whirlpool, given their record.
The tumble dryer is an upgrade from the last recall and frankly, I want that out of my house as well now.
I need one yesterday, considering the amount of washing that needs doing after a week away!
So, do I bite the bullet go for a Miele? How long is it going to last?! I like the look of the ones that measure the detergent out for you. This thing has to cope with rugby kit and builders kit
The tumble dryer is an upgrade from the tumble dryer recall and rankly, I want that out of my house as well now.
Any recommendations?

Here's another question. I can't have a venting tumble drier as our new house is airtight. Does a tumble dryer with a heat pump condense?
I'm just staring blankly at the John Lewis website.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

IMHO it's horses for courses.
A Miele with a 10-yr guarantee will certainly cost you 5x more than a cheapie though their range starts at those with 5-year guarantees & that makes me ask myself "why?".
Are those then built to a price, like most of the rest?
The quality of wash is no different from a cheapie, certainly in everyday use there's nowhere near the difference that the price difference would suggest.
I used to buy Miele but stopped when my old one needed an expensive repair just beyond the guarantee. A cheap Beko followed with large load capacity, fast spin and eco credentials. Three years on and it is going strong, no problems whatsoever but I honestly wouldn't mind if it gave up tomorrow because it cost less than £250. Less than Miele wanted to repair an 11-year-old washer (Miele repairs get poor reviews on Trustpilot BTW, take a look at the comments.).
So it's down to choice I guess as much as to cost and guesswork as to how long it'll last.
Can't say about heat pump driers, just that my 2-yr-old Indesit condenser has been great and quiet compared to the old AEG I had before & the AEG cost me an arm & a leg many moons ago, before so many of these companies merged. AEG are now the same as Zanussi & Bendix as part of Electrolux for example.
Look at AO as well would be my suggestion rather than splashing wads on something that is in reality no better.
Oh and I know quite a few folk that swear by their LG direct drive washer.
Sad lot.

I've got Bosch washer and dryer (seperate) that have been really good. The direct measurement of detergent sounds good but only works on liquid detergent, I find powder works a lot better with muddy sports gear so avoided that. I have a condenser dryer which is fine, I just have to remember to empty the water drawer!0

Don't believe all the hype about measuring detergent or measuring the amount of water needed or measuring how dirty the clothes are or special doors that let you add items etc. They are just washing machines.
I found when working on them that the biggest factor that affected the longevity of a machine was the customer. Some wore out machines every couple of years no matter what they bought, some kept them for decades.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
Go for a washer with a decent spin rating at least "A" and low % residual moisture to cut down drying costs(speed does not tell you that)
Heatpump dryers are condenser many can be plumbed in to avoid tipping out the condenser container
They have multiple filters so do need maintenance.
Look at A++A+++ heatpump.
Some of the newer ones are hybrid they have a heater to kick start the drying process and are lot quicker.
Watch the condenser efficiently some dump a lot of the moisture into the room
We have a Grundig HP dryer 5y parts and labour warranty only available from curry's. Been happy it lives in a unheated garage.
(They are Beko with different design and long warranty)
Look at AO they do yesterday delivery.0 -

"B" 53% spin performance. A rated are <45%0 -
Not sure if there is such a thing as best white goods, you will only get personal recommendations, we have had a Bosch washing machine now 12 years old and a Bosch condenser tumble dryer now 23 years old both used regularly doing weekly washes and working without any problems or faults, we would certainly buy Bosch again though who knows if they would still be as reliable.0
