In a country that probably has one of the best quality tap water supplies in the world, the producers of bottled water and filtered water have really pulled one of the biggest con jobs of all times (IMO of course).
All depends where you live and what your local water company "adds" to the water. Around my dad's in Lincolnshire the tap water tastes vile in comparison to mine and you'd definitely wouldn't want to make a cup of tea with unfiltered water unless you want all the floating scum that comes with it.

Having said that I don't see these dedicated filter taps as being very good value for money in comparison to separate filter jugs, I think it's more of a convenience thing.

Best tasting tap water I've had was in central Birmingham and remember thinking it was odd that city centre water would taste so good. Later heard that it is piped in from the Welsh mountains and it made sense.

Water in this bit of Yorkshire is very soft. It tastes good but only after the chlorine has evaporated off (or been carbon filtered). Well below ideal hardness for coffee brewing, but good enough

Interestingly, in some ratings Birmingham is among the top places, in sime - among the worst. This just proves that tastes differ

^ Intresting. Supplies can vary within areas as well, so neighbouring er neighbourhoods can have water supplied from very different sources.

Worst I've known was an area supplied with treated Thames water (literally out of the river) and it was rank.
