Edinburgh airport used to charge £1 for 5 minutes to drop people off (ANPR on entry, barrier on exit which uses ANPR to check the vehicle reg to show the amount due to open the barrier), and £3 for 15 minutes at the closest pick up zone. In these days of mobile phones and easy connectivity, many people (myself included) are using the drop off zone to also pick people up - after all both activities take the same amount of time. Edinburgh responded by changing the drop off zone charge to £2 so they could profiteer from peoples' actions.

Edinburgh has ~15 minutes free from the long stay car park, so you'd need a shuttle bus to get to/from the terminal. You may also need to leave and re-enter a few times if your pick-up is taking longer.


Lots of people seem to just wait in cars off the approach roundabouts and then pick people up outside the car rental or hotel.
