Cheapest fuel(s) for my stove

Hi guys :)

I have a multi-fuel stove and am currently burning ecoal50 smokeless coal and homefire kiln dried logs.

My question is, where is the cheapest place to get them, and are there any alternatives? I have tried brazier coal and found it is very dusty and not very good quality. I am paying around £13.50 for a 25kg bag of the ecoal, and £14.95 for a large bag of the kiln dried logs. It is bankrupting me!

Any advice gratefully received, many thanks. :)

If you have a space that is dry to store logs (and coal) in, get a bulk delivery. Buying kiln dried logs is expensive, and doubly so in small bags. Depending on where you are in the country, a loose load of logs (often around 1.5-2m³) should cost somewhere between £100 and £200.

In my opinion, kiln dried logs are a waste of money - unless you are forced to buy in small quantities due to lack of storage space. My bulk supplier offers 'barn stored seasoned' logs for a lot less and they aren't bad at around 20% moisture content. Having said that, I have had to shop around to find a reliable supplier. It's worth the effort, however.

For smokeless fuel, the cheapest source I have found has been houseful.co.uk Again, you have to order a reasonable quantity and be able to store it, but the savings are very worthwhile.
