Lying Argos delivery driver

Hello,

This is my first time using this site so I hope I’m creating this post in the right thread. This is a warning to anyone who wishes to shop with, Argos. They do not care about their loyal customers.

My Story

In June 2019 I ordered a footstool from, Argos, online. During the months after I enjoyed my footstool until I began to notice 2 of its legs were becoming loose. Unable to figure out how to fix the problem myself at the time, I decided to contact the, Argos helpline, on Dec 20th 2019, to see if they would be able to fix or replace my footstool. After some minor computer complications, the person I spoke to was finally able to arrange a collection/replacement for me the next working day. I hung up content that, Argos, was willing to replace my faulty footstool before, Christmas.
I had a delivery slot between 2-6pm. Not a problem as I had no reason to go out that day. As expected, I received a phone call from the delivery driver that he would be on his way in a matter of minutes. I thanked him and said goodbye. A few minutes later I receive a second phone call from the delivery person asking me for instructions on how to get to my home address. I explained to him in as much detail as I could before he hung up. Thinking that he would soon be on his way, a third call comes through asking me for further instructions. Once again I give him instructions (as much as anyone could) and he hangs up once again reassuring me that he will be there (my address) in 6 minutes. By now I was concerned so I called him myself and sure enough he was still having problems locating my “London” address.
It’s important to know that for 13 years I have had many home deliveries made to my address. Some have had problems finding my block on an estate, but no delivery person has anyone ever found it difficult to find the street on which my estate is built on. ( For those who are having a hard time understanding this sentence, it means that delivery drivers have found my road and the estate, but not the “section” or block of the estate that I reside in. I have never come across a delivery person who couldn’t find just the road. I live near, Central London. Not on a hill after you cross a stream, third tree from the left.)
From the location the delivery driver had given me, it wouldn’t have taken him 6 minutes to get to my building and so I decided to give him another call, but he refused to answer it. I knew then that this lying delivery driver had given up the search and left.

I was hurt and upset that someone in his position could boldly lie to a customer and say that he was on his way when he wasn’t. To leave someone waiting for you when you know you have no intentions of showing up. Like a bad date.
I immediately got on the phone to, Argos helpline, to complain, but my complaint fell on deaf ears. I was told that regardless of the driver making contact with me, my replacement was still out for delivery. In my frustration I told the call handler that I would “cuss” (meaning to tell off) the driver if I see him. This was taken out of context and I was accused of using “inappropriate language”. I was in distress, I believe my voice was raised, however I never attacked the call handler and I never used cursed words. That is not how I communicate with people, that is not how I get what I want. I was upset that I had been lied to and I was upset that the person I was speaking to didn’t understand that. I hung up without saying goodbye, took a breath and called, Argos, again to try and arrange a redelivery. That is when I found out that I had been “black balled” as it were. Argos would not deliver to me due to this “inappropriate language”. I laughed this off because their delivery driver couldn’t locate my address in the first place.
After I made an official complaint online via chat, that’s when Argos no longer wanted to deal with me. The item could not be collected and returned via home delivery and that I should go in store. But when asked which store had this item, I was told that this item could only be home delivered. Then I was told that because my footstool was “broken” it was not their responsibility. So someone changed my words from “faulty” to “intentionally broken”.

It was a month before, Argos, realised that I wasn’t going anywhere. On Twitter I had left a screenshot of the number of times the driver had called me for instructions. And on Trust Pilot I had left a review of my mistreatment by, Argos. 21st century and this driver has not discovered google maps or street view.
It wasn’t until 21st Jan 2020 when I received a call from, Argos’ executive office, that I was told they would issue me a refund, but also that because of the delivery driver’s accusation of me being verbally abusive towards him, Argos will never again deliver to my home address.
I had already expressed a number of times that I will never shop with, Argos, never recommend them and never accept gifts bought from them. So refusing to deliver goods to my home is not a problem. What Argos fails to understand is that they have competitors who are more than willing to take their disgruntled, dissatisfied clients from them.
My fight is against this delivery driver who defamed my character by accusing me of being verbally abusive directly to him in order to mask his own incompetence and to keep his employment.
I want people to know that this could very well be their story one day. Or maybe it is your story. If you have been accused of being verbally abusive to a delivery driver and that’s their reason for not delivering your goods, then I would like to hear of your experience.
For more than 20 years I have shopped with, Argos, as this was a store my family often used when I was growing up. Every problem I had, Argos, was able to solve. Every delivery driver able to locate my address and deliver small to large items without a hitch and this incompetent delivery person has destroyed that relationship with lies and, Argos, has done nothing to make it right. They say they are doing an investigation. But what more can they uncover? The driver said what he said and so have I. The only thing for Argos to do is to determine which of is telling the truth. He has a lot more to lose than I, but as I said to the person in the executive office. If, Argos, continues to turn a blind eye to lies their delivery drivers tell against their customers, they will lose loyal customers like me.

Edit: The purpose of my post was to warn others of the lie and accusations made by an, Argos, delivery driver to cover up his inability to follow a map. I’ve received my refund in full and have no reason to convince others to not shop with, Argos. You do so at your own volition. I could care less about a delivery driver not turning up. I’ve had my fair share of those. But never have I ever been accused of verbally abusing anyone, far less someone I’ve never met before. As someone of principle, I will not remain silent. I will not allow this one delivery person think he can get away with it. Yesterday it was me, who will it be tomorrow?
And for those who didn’t know, you can be upset and rational at the same time. If you are happy for your character to be defamed by an incompetent employee trying to cover up his/her failures, then by all means live and let live. I don’t need to convince anyone to stop shopping with, Argos, because people like those who have tried to shame me in the thread, totally disregarding the fact that a delivery driver not only fail to deliver, but turned around lied and slandered my good name, will eventually learn for themselves just how little, Argos, cares about them when they come running with a problem.
In fact, to those who have only come on here to be a troll, I encourage you to shop with, Argos. Continue to have to replace items that have either been used and/or broken, so you can enjoy the inconvenience of having to sort it out, especially during special occasions. Continue to be charged twice the amount you paid. Continue to wait indoors all day for a delivery that was never going to arrive anyway. Continue to put up with their “there’s nothing we can do” spiel when your item is no longer in stock. Or the fact that they’re always “out of stock”. And so yes, I am laughing, because I haven’t lost anything. They told me they didn’t need me? Correction. I told them that I don’t need them. What you fail to understand is that I am not upset that I can no longer order home delivery with them. I’m upset with the fact that this delivery driver thought that he could get away with a lie. If I let that delivery driver get away with it, others are going to think they can too. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.

    Are you still laughing?

Argos delivery driver didn't turn up. OP says other drivers have 'had problems' finding their home.

    OP felt hurt and upset.

OP telephoned Argos saying they would 'cuss the driver if [they] see him.'

Argos now refuse to deliver to OP's home.

    Cuss:
to say words that are not polite because you are angry

I'm not surprised Argos refuses to make delivers to someone who is not polite because they are angry.

Will the OP's rambling, one sided, complaint stop me shopping at Argos? No.

They won't lose customers like you, they've already told you they don't want you as a customer anyway and you don't want to use them.

Can't say I blame them to be honest.

Edit: And since this is the Praise, Vent & Warnings forum, praise to Argos for not letting your staff be abused by customers!

Only one party comes out of this situation looking bad and it's not Argos.

No one is treating the OP with hate. Telling someone something they don't want to hear isn't treating them with hate.
Is there not anyone in the family who could have lent mum a chair? Bought a cheap temporary one herself? However poor Argos customer service is, she really didn't have to spend weeks sitting on the floor unless there's a touch of exaggeration for effect going on here.
Actually, the camping chair wasn't a bad idea. It's what I used when I got my house, until I could afford proper furniture.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

How is that even remotely the same problem as the OP? The two scenarios are completely different.

OP had a delivery driver who couldn't find their property (and admits that others have had problems finding their property too so there is clearly an issue with the property), OP then called Argos accusing the delivery driver of lying even before it got to the stage of the driver not turning up and proceeded to threaten to "cuss out" the driver when he did arrive. Argos quite rightly chose to protect their employee from OP and have refused to allow any deliveries due to OPs own attitude.

In your scenario there has been some actual poor customer service with your mum being given the run around but there is still no explanation of why your mum was left with no furniture, it's basic common sense to not get rid of all of your old furniture before the new stuff arrives, what if had arrived but had been faulty? Or wouldn't fit through the doors? Or even just your mum didn't like it and chose to return it? Their offer of loaning a chair was reasonable in the circumstances. As elsien said there were other options for your mum having a chair, almost every town has freecycle type groups so even that would have been an option for a temporary chair.

It's very convenient though that one new user signs up specifically to try to back up another brand new user, it's almost uncanny how often this coincidence occurs when people don't get the replies they want.

    Pull the other 1.

Why did you not offer to have your mother at yours ?

Why would you allow your mother to sit on the floor ?

Do tell me where hate has been posted towards the other poster ?
  • The driver didn't answer your call (possibly because they were driving) and your first decision is to decide he was lying and call Argos. Argos tell you it is still out for delivery (for all you know, the driver is still on their way to you) and you shout and threaten the driver.
My fight is against this delivery driver who defamed my character by accusing me of being verbally abusive directly to him in order to mask his own incompetence and to keep his employment.

You shouted at the call handler. To many people (including me) cussing = swearing so you may not have actually sworn at the driver but you threatened to shout/swear at him.

Is this an entry for Radios 2's "500 Words" competition? Good effort.
