Online postage - proof of posting?

Did a quick search for this but didn't find anything.

If you use Royal Mail online to print postage can this be used as proof of postage in the event of a disputed claim with a buyer that the item did not arrive.

Clearly the online order includes details of where the item went to and there is proof that you paid for the postage.

Thanks.

  • If I was a buyer on ebay I wouldn't accept it, would you? Quite simply it doesn't prove that it has been posted.

No it can't, because who's to say you put the item in the post box? You need to get everything stamped in the PO. Yes, it kind of defeats the object of having an online facility, but hey, that's the RM.

It could be extremely profitable to pay for postage for expensive goods, but never send them, if RM let you claim for unstamped items ;)

Why do you need proof of postage ??

Always send all eBay items recorded via the on-line service

    Then you are fine

    .

No, you need to use a trackable service like recorded or special delivery

.... until you need to make a claim for compensation from the RM... then you're stuffed.

    Thanks for all your responses.

You would think that somehow they would be able to gather some infromation that the parcel has gone through their system somewhere - do they not verify the information that is printed on the address label, such as scan the unique image along with the unique number?

I don't think anything gets scanned at all, unless it's SD (scanned periodically) or RD (theoretically scanned at destination)

  • If you want to be covered by Paypal seller protection then you have to send items via recorded or other online trackable delivery system. If you dont then you may end up with a buyer claiming a parcel has not arrived and the claim process through Royal Mail is long (you cannot even start the claim untill 21 days after expected delivery then it take 2-3 wekks on top of that).
  • This process (to me) just eliminates the need to pay at the post office.

If you want to do recorded or SD you still need to complete the sticky form. So for queue avoiding, it gains nothing. It is a good service though if you are going to just put something in normal post. But whoever said about tracking or proof or posting, they are right - it can't possibly be a guaranteed way.

ROFL,seriously.how exactly would you propose that system is implemented?
i think you need to look at the sheer number of items that travel through RM's system including items handled by other companies and transferred for deli8very
