Sort out finances after wife lost her job.

     If she is the type of partner who applies for credit cards secretly I would be looking to split finances.  Make her pay a contribution to the household expenses and leave her to sort her own debts out.  
    This is the approach we are currently taking as it is the best way to get some form of peace of mind without appearing intrusive. i've let her know in the future i wouldn't be covering her debts like i did for the past year.

    The OP hasn't logged on to MSE for almost a month.
    In fact, the last post the OP made is immediately above yours dated 30th April.

    Or was there a post above yours that has now been removed?

    Why would you come to this conclusion ? We are still concentrating on paying off our debts and its going pretty well considering the savings we've made from not commuting during the lockdown.
