So guys update again.. first of all we don’t need jerks in here.. So a friend with an obd scanner and not the cheap crap on eBay and that why I can’t afford one is because I don’t cheap out On tools. I’m not paying £1000 for one just to find out the car/van ain’t responding to it. Like it did to day. I like finding and asking for help it’s the old way no computer way. So to the people he wanting to help then thank you!! So like I said obd didn’t work and after 20 minutes we found out that it’s the timing chain that’s broken. So I’ve 2 ways of fixing it

    1. Replace the engine
    2. Replace the head and timing chain.

I’ve thinking the cheaper way witch is replace the engine. And before someone says that ain’t cheaper then u be wrong just got the engine from up the road for £100 instead of paying 80-120 for the head and then 59.99 for the chain & £120 for rockerarms...

Quick head up the car/van was Cheap really cheap. The wheels are worth 5x more then I paid. 😂😂

Yeah buddy. I appreciate what you said.. I am gunna try that. I got an ecu to see if it will fix it but it didn’t. However I can tell it’s an electrical issue and I’ll try what you said. However the main reason why it’s not starting is because of the timing chain breaking.. once that’s done I’ll move on to the wire side of things.

The 1.3 CDTi is actually a Fiat 1.3 Multijet engine.

The older 1.7 Di, DTi and CDTi's in Corsas/Combos are Isuzu engines, I've had a few of them over the years and they tend to be quite robust, so much so I ran an old 1.7 Di on 70% used veg oil for 70,000 miles.

The 1.3 seems to fair well in passenger cars, but a lot end up being trouble in vans, probably due to extended and/or poor servicing.

As you've found out, timing chains can be an issue, as can turbo wastegates seizing due to carbon build up, EGR's failing, again carbon/blow by oil clogging them up, oil cooler leaks( part of the oil filter housing), HP pump trouble (check this as it might be this that took the chain out) and a few wiring gremlins.

No OBD scanner in the land would diagnose cam chain fail - doesnt matter if you paid £5,000 for it.

Seller knew it was cam chain fail as noone is going to sell a van that just needed refueling for a 5th of what the wheels are worth.

Hopefully the engine you got for £100 is a good'un and nothing else goes wrong with it.
