Options
Hey guys really need your help.. I just got a run and to repair. It’s a Vauxhall combo C 1.3 and the ad says it was driving but on the way home it run out of fuel. Easy fix. He start he put fuel in it but won’t start tho. I know a little about cars and Diesel engines need too be bleed the air out the fuel systems. I got it delivered and used the starter to roll in the drive. The battery sounded wear. ( I forgot about the hand brake. Noob) so I fort I need to charge the battery. So after I bleed the engine I give it a little try but didn’t start. I fort I’d disconnect the battery and charge it. The battery was have way charge and I fort I’d try it. I connected it and please look at the video... u see what happened. I’ve no idea what the hell happened and why I don’t need the key in and I can see the fuel light and some over lights without the key...

u can see half the dash lit up and the key ain’t in.. it’s really strange and need to fix it. Hopefully for free.. I’m poor lol please ask me if you have a question. Really need this van for work. That why I spend my last bit of money for it..

I can’t post video and have to leave it in the comments

You need to start with a compatible code reader to extract the fault codes from the ECU.

Not all code readers will work on Vauxhall, you need the right one.

sounds like water in the fuse box, but I would have the ECU read first.

I bought an OBD scanner for £13 off ebay that works fine with a Corsa D. If you cannot afford one then I suggest you sell it as it is.

Quick update, charge battery fully it sound like it’s not cranking fast enough, so bought voltage meter. And I tried the pedal test however it’s not working to you ordered an ECU! It’s coming today. Will it work or do u have to program it?... it came out the same type of van.

Can afford a voltmeter and an ECU but can't afford £13 for an OBD scanner?

More importantly why buy a dead van that you know is dead and you aren't sure how to fix it when you already need to "rely" on it?

There's a short on the electrical side somewhere OR the barrel in the ignition lock is broken.
Both are common on the Corsa/Combo C.

Favourite for shorts is the loom to the ECU melting or a duff alternator diode that causes a short and draws power back out of the battery, me thinks the handbrake/fluid warning light is hooked up in series, so it can power back through that, but the short is usually further down stream towards the alternator.
Disconnect the ECU loom, then the alternator wiring to see if the dash lights go out.

The ignition lock wearing it pretty common on nearly all delivery type vans when drivers are in and out of them a thousand times a day.
There's a slot in the bottom of the barrel that turns with the key, when the mech is worn the barrel won't turn the slot, so it gets stuck in one position, in your case, ignition on.
I've seen them suck on crank as well, it's not pretty!
