Freesat Boxes

We have a Humax freesat box but would like to get another with the same functionality - able to record & with catch up but have failed to find any.
Are these no longer manufactured and if so, can anyone recommend an alternative?

Hi,
Yes, it does look like they no longer make them - they don't even have any on the Humax Direct site (I've had a few bargains from there).
Do you definitely have to have Freesat and not Freeview?, do you not have a terrestrial aerial?
The reason I is because Channel 4 HD and the channel 4 catch up player is no longer available on Freesat boxes, but they are still on Freeview boxes.0 -

What makes you think they aren't manufctured anymore ?
Currys, Amazon and Argos sell them.
Id stick with Humax.0 -

A quick look on Argos confirms they are completely out of stock of them.
A quick look on Currys show that they are completely out of stock of them (I can't even find them on their site).
Amazon are only selling either second hand ones or new ones that are £100 more than the retail price.0 -

I think the Humax website showing as "out of stock" on every decoder is the cause for concern..
That one is the freesat only and it won't allow you to record which the OP says that they want.
Also, there is a thread here that says that they have pulled out of the Freesat market - though it doesn't seem to be confirmed anywhere that I can find.

Have to say that if it is true then it is very sad. Humax make (or made) the best Freesat recorders by a country mile. I picked up an 1100s last year from Cash Convertors for £65 (I think that they thought it was a receiver only not a recorder). Great little device, I only stopped using it because of the Channel 4 thing - I got a DTR-T1010 Freeview box to replace it from ebay.0 -

But that is one argumentative forum as a whole. Most discussions start off as "somebody breathes, somebody else takes exception to that and cue argument about... something".0 -
Freesat have awarded a contract to another maker - Arris for freesat PVR boxes. They were due to be in the marketplace last year, but have been delayed. https://www.freesat.co.uk/news/freesat-selects-arris-partner-launch-generation-3-set-top-box/
https://www.arris.com/arriseverywhere/2018/09/freesat-selects-arris-as-partner-to-launch-generation-3-set-top-box/
Unsurprisingly other makers (including Humax) have stopped making the older generation 2 versions, and have cleared their stocks.
The new generation of boxes by Arris may come along sooner or later?
Otherwise some top of the range TVs have twin freesat tuners in them that can record to external USB HDDs... with varying ease-of-usability from what I've read.0 -
Thanks everybody for your replies.
At the moment we're using our old sky box but was considering 'upgrading' it so we could watch catch up mainly but it would have been nice to be able to record.
Hopefully the sky box will last long enough for Arris to sort their act out!0 -
If you're willing to look around and maybe go second hand, you're looking for a 'Freetime' box. Just like Freeview with catchup is Youview, or Freeview Play, Freesat with catchup is Freetime.0
