Best way to get more Canadian cash while in Canada from UK

Hi I am currently on holiday in Canada and want to get some more travel money. I have a Halifax account in the UK and obviously do not want to use my debit card. What is the most cost-effective way ? Thanks.

If you don't have anything other than the Halifax Debit card, you are a bit stuck. Western Union isn't likely to be any better, unless you know someone there with a Candian bank account.

Using the Halifax card to withdraw 400 CAD at an ATM is likely to cost you around 3.5% in fees/exchange rate loading. This isn't great, but it's better than the Post Office rate for buying Canadian Dollars, for example. So if you bought your travel money somewhere like the PO, your "card from hell" may actually be better. Don't use it for purchases though (except maybe big purchases).

unless you need 1000's just got it out the cashpoint and in future take a decent card with you like Starling or Bo (bo is new from NatWest and has a fee-free visa card)
