Working on a bank holiday

How have they got to 18 days?
How many days/hours do you work.
OP states that they work 12 hours per week,
So I make that 8.4 days0 -
The OP has had the correct answer several times earlier - their entitlement for 12 hours a week is substantially in excess of the statutory leave, so anything over that statutory entitlement can be treated in whatever way the employer determines. They just didn't like the answer.0

You need to know the days,
could be 2x6hr days 3x4hr days or 4x3hr days or some other combo it makes a difference to the holiday.
12 hours is not enough on its own to work it out.
We don't know the full time holiday allowance, or the full time hours.
18 holidays days working X days a week gives FTE
2->45
3->30
4->22.5
2 is unlikely, 4 is not enough, 3 would work but not enough to allow for the buy out of all the BH0 -
I work 3 days ( 4 hour days) a week and my contract states I’m entitled to 72 hours leave which is the equivalent of 18 days.0

That makes the full timers holiday 30 days.
your statutory should be (28*3/5)=16.8 days.
They should not be paying for more than 1.2 days of holiday(not taken).0 -
Thanks getmore4less. I don’t intend to do anything about it I just wanted to know out of curiosity whether they were legally able to do it.0

One solution is to move the work days to avoid Mon&Fri, reduces the work days that hit a BH.
This year
4 Mon
1 Wed
3 Fri(May, Easter,xmas day) Edit:did say BD
If the holiday year is April-March swap the Wed for another Fri, Jan 1st.
Are you sure there are 5 landing on your work days?0 -
Unfortunately my days are fixed and Boxing Day falls on a Saturday so the following Mon is a Bank Holiday. I’m wondering whether it’s just the store I work in that has this policy, maybe in the future when I’m a bit more established I might question it but at the moment I’ll just enjoy the extra money.
Thanks for the mostly helpful comments.0 -
The early May BH is a Friday this year so just 4 BH will be Mondays.
Check the employee handbooks. .0 -
Also check the holiday year. I would expect Boots to have a standard year for everyone. Is it the calendar year or, say, April to March?
You need to have established what they actually do before the end of the year. If the holiday year ends on 31 March, check and get in writing in February.0
