I work 12 hours per week so less than half but as far as I am aware full time staff are treated the same.

I would be very surprised if a huge organisation link Boots had unlawful staff holiday rules.

If the full time people get 33 days leave a year but then get an incentive to give up five of those days and work on the bank holidays for double time, that is perfectly lawful.

If they only get 28 days leave but can't take some of the days, regardless of getting double time that is unlawful.

If you were only getting the legal minimum holiday you would need to be able to take it as holiday. But your employers are legally allowed to have their own ways of dealing with anything over the minimum (which is 28 days for full time).
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Thanks I guess the next step is a phone call to Acas on Monday.

That certainly might be your next step. Most sensible people's next step would be to speak to their employer. As you say, you've just started with Boots. I suspect you may soon also be finishing with them if this is your approach.

The sensible approach is to clarify with Acas first before approaching my manager!!

    I disagree.
In your position, I'd approach the HR department in work and/or consult the Boots employee handbook.

I suspect this will be a simple mis-understanding and it's not ACAS function to intervene or advise at such an early stage in any case.

Why are you seeking confrontation so soon after finding employment there? You don't want to be marked as a trouble-maker...

How about answering the questions in post 5 above? Might be better placed to help if we know where you got this 'info' from.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

I found out when I was asked to book annual leave for the following year and told I could only book 13 days as 5 would be used to cover bank holidays. When I expressed my surprise as I will work on those days it was explained that although they will go down as a days work they also count is as a days leave hence the double pay. I do not intend to rock the boat or as someone has suggested lose my job as I enjoy working there I just wanted to clarify whether they are right to do this .

Have you checked in the relevant staff handbooks.

How have they got to 18 days?

How many days/hours do you work.
