    I wasn't aware you were pre-pay when I posted.

Best thing you can do is get in advance ready for next winter.

Use the money to top up and keep topping up weekly/monthly like you normally would throughout the year.

Then you will have the £140 ready for winter and you just need to top up as you normally would and not have to worry about being cold and not having the credit, repeat each year.

It is a naff set up when on pre-pay.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • When did you apply for it? We’re you a late application? I think some forms are sent in September and then a payment made by December but depends on utility company

We applied late August early September, cant remember the exact date, but we had the letter before Christmas to say we will recieve payment on Feb 28th.

I didnt want to come across as disrespectful, this wasen't meant to be that at all, in fact I was concerned for two reasons. One being concerned how do I keep this house warm for my 4 year old daughter and her mum and me. 2nd concern actually was it seems a waste of whoever provides it, the money when its not going to be well spent when most of winter will be over and we would have already struggled, and then got £140 credit when heating is turned back or off, clothes can be hanged outside instead of tumbledried. Lights are on less.
We cant save it towards next winter because now after months of robbing Peter to pay Paul, its a relief to not stick all we got on electric.

The whole thing just seems so ironic to me really.

We live in a county, and a very rural part of that too, and the cost of living is high, yet wages low, so its not a place to get rich quick unless your lucky to have property to sell. Even some businesses rely on summer to get money from tourism here. Then winter everything drops off.
And to think I'm luckier than most.

It is a poorly thought out scheme for those on pay as you go meters but as someone suggested when you do get the vouchers keep them towards next winter.
The £140 is provided by your energy company and is not being held onto by them it's just the way the scheme works.
Can you try to get a credit meter than the money is just credited into your electricity account to cover your winter usage.
  • It’s not a cheque, it’s a voucher you need to take to the post office with your key/card.
