Winter warmer cheque

Hi, we we're told we will be successfully receiving a winter warmer cheque from EDF to help towards the high running costs of heaters this winter, but wouldn't be receiving the cheque until 28th of February which by then the winter would be almost over. We have been struggling to keep the home warm since November, so surely companies like EDF should send the cheques out before winter not after. Confused to say the least.

It will be timed for when your winter usage bill arrives, so you can turn up your heating in winter and not worry about paying a high bill as you get the extra money.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

MovingForwards, sorry I should have mentioned its a pay as you go smart meter which EDF has recently installed, so we dont get any bills.
I had a pre pay meter before that. If anything me and my partner seem to think the money isnt lasting as good since the instillation of the smart meter.
But my complaint is why issue customers like myself with the £140 cheque when we have been struggling since roughly November to keep the house warm. Whats the point in us receiving it when winter is over?0 -
Why is it that people who actually get something for free have to still whinge about when they get it or how much it is.
Perhaps they should spare just a little thought for the rest of us who have to pay extra on our bills so they can get this freebie.
Just sayingNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
When I was on prepay meters, I used it similar to credit meters. After a year, I had a rough annual usage guess, worked out how much it would be for the next 12 months, divided it by 52 and but that amount on weekly. That way I did not have a massive increase to pay during the colder months. Yes, I did get my WHD and calculated new usage when that was paid.0

As of now has not even been a cold winter, how would some of these people have coped during 70s, paraffin heaters bottom of stairs, hot water bottles in bed, no central heating, much colder winters.0 -

matelodave, for the record I work every hour God sends as it is, where I live the cost of living is high yet wages are low in comparison.
I struggle most winters to keep my family warm. I just dont get what is the point in them doing these schemes if winter is over by the time we get them.
No trying to sound ungrateful.0 -
I think the 140 will be credited to your energy account. You won’t actually receive a cheque as such.
Please correct me if I am wrong.Be happy, it's the greatest wealth0 -

If you're worried about a big bill coming in, just work out a daily kWh limit, read the meter each day and keep within it.0 -
We dont use more than we have to.
To me this is not even good for whoever funds these schemes because by February 28th we wont make the most use of the money due to Spring being around the corner. Ideally to suite both customer and whoever provides the cash you'd think both would benefit if they recieved it in November or at the very latest December. It all seems a bit of a waste to me otherwise.
Whats the point in us having £140 towards our winter consumption when winter is over. How else can I explain it?0
