  • Hi themadvix, thanks for stopping by.

I really don't want to push too hard with the OPing while we're starting out but its so hard not to get swept up in moving the pennies to bring down the mortgage. Thinking that we could be potentially paying our mortgage still when we're 61 is terrifying.

So we're probably not going to end up overpaying a great deal to start with.

That being said, with our £50.00 a month we are going to put straight into the overpayment pot and any little bits we get from tilly tidies, survey sites, etc. we have just sent off our first overpayment of £84.13 _party_

It might only be a small amount in comparison to our whole mortgage but I am very happy with it :D:D:D

Signature updated and onto the next month!

Oh I totally get how tempting the OP option is - we were just the same when we started! Then we switched to a mortgage where it wasn’t so easy to op and they liked you to do big chunks... we slowed down. Now we can do small payments again and it’s addictive, but as we’re decorating this month I’m having to be restrained again!! :)

So - I was looking to do this but can currently only do large chunks, who do you have your mortgage with as I'd like to make more frequent, smaller overpayments?

We are with Santander... who didn't used to let you do small payments but now have a much better online system. Natwest let us do small OPs before that. I think most do - Santander seemed to be very behind the times!

We have our mortgage with Barclays. We are allowed to overpay up to 10% a year and when we asked about overpaying they didn't say we had to overpay in big chunks or anything. Nothing about overpaying chunks in any of our paperwork either.

  • Hi,

My first mortgage payment is on the 2nd, the first payment is scary as its a massive increase from what it generally is! £255.00 more to be exact. But after that hopefully ill have more that I can put away for insurance, car repairs etc (Wanting a new car not brand new though come august).
  • So.. I get left alone with my paycheck for 2 days and look what happened...

I did a naughty spend. A big one. Well, what I class as a big one. Not as big as buying a house or a car or anything like that but still. Money saving gods, please forgive me.

I spent £332.50  on tickets

4 tickets to see My Chemical Romance to be precise. My 2006 teenage emo self is living her best life today. Where is my black eyeliner?

Technically, I will be getting the money back for one ticket as it's for my brothers friend so he will pay me back. I may suggest that my brother can have his ticket for his birthday and christmas present so I don't need to think what to get him and the money will come out of our gift pot. So I suppose it's not that bad.
I will have to live with the spend for mine and OH's tickets though.

Anyway, too late to do anything about it now ;)

Second naughtyish thing, I brought 2 new pairs of black jeans. This was a necessity though. I had to do it. Seeing as I ripped the backside of my last pair yesterday while I was at work :rotfl: height of embarrassment.
I'm limited as to where I can buy jeans for my long legs so Topshop spend was £72.00.

On a more positive MSE note:
    - I purchased my jeans via Quidco so will be getting some cashback eventually.
    - Quidco also have added £5.00 to my account for the 2019 season bonus which is nice. So currently have £5.51 ready to cash out and £11.23 tracked.
    - My £3.07 has appeared in my paypal from PollPass so I'll be able to split that between the savings pot and my Feb overpayment pot when I get round to it.
    - I have £12.10 ready to cash out on Prolific and £5.90 awaiting review so good start to getting a few more pennies this month.
    - Downloaded ZipZero on my phone. We'll see how we get on with that as I've heard mixed things.
    - Car parking was approved at work (£3.90) so that should appear in my bank account next week.

Car is now taxed for another year £20.00.
Car is also filled up with petrol £47.00 - should last me 2 and a half, maybe 3 weeks.

Will do my tilly tidy tomorrow but hopefully, that should be it. At least for the next 2 days. Until the bills start to come out on the 1st.

Now off to do something productive and not at all money related

Thanks for popping by jimbo2108  Glad I'm not alone in this "first payment fright".

Our first payment was £227.42 more than our standard payment  Terrifying, especially coupled with the fact it had to come out of the paycheck that came a week before christmas and needed to last until Januarys payday came around.

I was so worried that I wouldn't have enough in our accounts to pay for christmas and all the new bills that had been set up and our bigger mortgage payment.

Feeling a lot more confident in the 2nd mortgage payment coming out because I don't have to worry about last minute purchases for christmas.

Massive well done with your first payment. Thinking about it, it must be about time for your second...!

I didn't know MCR was still a thing. Used to listen to them as well but stopped with the black parade, are they still making new albums? A weird thing I found was that I listened to panic! at the disco at 16, met my boss's 16 year old at summer and there she was in a patd tshirt. :rotfl:

What kind of things are you doing to the house?
