I was going to say Octavia (specifically a Diesel Octavia), which is basically a bomb proof Passat with a few less bells and whistles.
We had 2 as site cars which covered almost 200K each and they were utterly indestructible. When we swapped them for Insignias and we aren't even going to go there!
Actually a Golf, to be pedantic. The Superb is based on the Passat.
Unfortunately my Octavia diesel wasn't fault free but I'd consider another.0 -
OP I asked the same question last year.
This was the answer I got.Zero_Gravitas wrote: »The key characteristic is that it should be a Skoda Octavia...
I'm not that keen on the Octavia so I looked at and researched the Superb Estate looking for any excuse not to buy one.
I'm now the proud owner of Superb Estate 2.0TDi with enough bells and whistles on it to keep me happy. (I really like the adaptive cruise control).
I bought a Cat S under 3yo, high mileage for about 50% off retail.0 -
Honda for me I am on my fourth and never had any major problems with any of them, one of my daughters has a Civic of mine now eighteen years old, passed the MOT with no advisories last year.0

To be more pedantic the Superb is based on the Golf as well as is the Passat, they all use the MQB platform now.
Similarly though my Octavia diesel wasn't great so I changed to a petrol Mazda6 which I've had for six years now and had few issues apart from wear and tear.0 -

Can the Diesel engines used in the Octavia (I assume used across the VAG group too) handle shorter journeys and generally lower annual mileages or would that be asking for all sorts of DPF headaches? I only ask as the diesel engines appear to be more reliable than the 'tsi' engines and better low down grunt (read as 'torque')0 -

I’ve got a 10 year old 1.4 tsi Octavia Estate (had from new) engine has not missed a beat. It does over 40mpg easily just nipping around more on a run if you’re light footed. It’s an Elegance so most of the toys the only thing that dates it now is the radio. No sat nav, dab, Bluetooth.0
