The market for old Fords, even quite mundane ones, is extremely strong atm (no, I don't understand it either) so I can see the OPs thinking. Having said that, the classic car market can be quite fickle so the staggering increase in Ford prices over the last few years isn't guaranteed to continue.
But, as others have said, it needs to be protected from the worst of the elements and kept in running order to make the most of its potential investment value.0 -
Or will the police spend their time and resources to trace back the driver address on the V5 logbook to prosecute for potential profit at court at what fine?
There's virtually no time and effort involved, if the vehicle is registered to you. Once the ANPR recognises the plate, that links to the V5C and to the keepers details. It's not like they have to go rummaging through filing cabinets, a simple press of a button has the appropriate paperwork on its way. Plenty of tales on here of people having their SORNed cars clamped or removed, for various reasons.0 -

Will an ST220 appreciate almost certainly, will a £1000 car become a £50,000 car almost certainly not.
In order to get decent appreciation on a car like this you need to do the following.
1. Buy the best your budget will allow for, minimal rust great interior low miles ideally good service history.
2. Colour - Rare colours are often not worth a premium. The classic Blue or whatever the ST220 colour is most likely best.
3. Use it sparingly, unless you can store it covered in a dry garage securely then you need to use it, cavity wax it to death and ensure it is meticulously maintained. Where possible accrue parts, especially trim , interior and panels all will become hideously expensive.
4. When not being used, lift it off its suspension, and ensure regular starts , oil changes etc.
Almost certainly a Mondeo will not increase more that the cost of maintaining it correctly.
Owned and Enjoyed a 2.8i Capri / 3.0 Capri since 2001. Have I made money ? No not really, do I have 2 nice cars to enjoy very much so.0 -

I always thought the reason standard classics fetched what they do was to do with the fact that they were just used as daily drivers and only a few made it past the average scrapping age, hence the value was because lots of drivers were chasing few cars.
If everybody thought "I'll buy a new Honda Jazz now, park it up & wrap it in cotton wool for 30 years", that will only mean more cars to choose from, hence it's a buyers market.0 -

Undoubtedly that will have an effect on final values. If you look at the world of classic Mini's there is no shortage of delivery mileage cars around.0 -
If its an investment you are looking for, you may do better storing original nos parts than the exact cars themselves.0
