  • Ignore it and move on you made a small technical error, but that's not uncommon. If you're not local to the area it's very easy to get caught out on the "left turn only" lanes. There's no advanced warning of it. Just turns up and by the time you see the road marking. You cant change lanes because the lane you need to be in is backed up with traffic.

The other driver was completely in the wrong, and [ideally] should report him to the police, but it's unlikely anything could ever be done about it.

Don't get caught out on road rage situations, there's a guy called Shahid Ali who was recently sentenced for 12 years for driving over a pedestrian and driving over their head! He has previous convictions for dangerous driving.

Some people are complete nutters and they have no limits.
  • My understanding is that indicators are used to show intent to make an maneuver to the left or right, not that it is necessarily safe to do so.

Ah, the lorry drivers version of the Highway Code. :rotfl:

My understanding is that indicators are used to show intent to make an maneuver to the left or right, not that it is necessarily safe to do so. If I get to a junction onto a main road, I stop and put on my right-hand indicator - it doesn't imply it's safe for me to turn right immediately. It is to signal to traffic in front / behind me that it is my intention to turn right. I will only actually turn right when I can observe that it is safe to do so (e.g. the main road is clear of traffic).

Perhaps this is why UK drivers are so bad if newly taught drivers are being misled.

If you think getting that wound up because a car lets another car in, in front of you, is a proportionate response, then it isn't the OP who has a problem with their driving.

Just in case it helps in future.

Putting the "dis" in front of the word "proportinate" changes the meaning.

Are you an ADI then? Just trying to gauge your level of expertise.

Strictly, you are correct, but in the real world out of classes it tends to pay to be a bit more pragmatic, as the driver who let the OP in decided, as will I if it is safe to do so.

As an instance, what if it had been a supervised learner that was in the driving seat? They cannot turn on to the motorway, so do they just stop and mess the whole traffic system up?

You weren't driving the van were you?

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-highway-code/signals-to-other-road-users is quite clear. But of course it goes with Mirrors, Signal, Manoeuvre so ideally you don't start signalling until it is safe and you are ready to start the move. But in the real world, some use it to mean "I intend to move as soon as it is clear" (e.g. when an overtaking vehicle has passed); some use it to mean "I would like to move and intend to do so if another driver is able and kind enough to make space for me" and of course, some use it to mean "I'm moving now and and tough **** if someone else has to brake".
I need to think of something new here...
